My mother and I go whale watching every weekend from early May through late October (weather permitting). I've been going since 2001 and she's been coming with me since 2008. We take anywhere from a couple hundred to over 1,000 pictures each on a full day's worth of whale watching. Doing the math you can you see that's a TON of pictures!

This year I decided to set up a Zenfolio account and in the process I discovered www.blurb.com where you can make books using your pictures. When I saw that site some major bells went off in my head and I thought it would make an awesome idea for a Christmas present. I'm thinking of making a book for my mom using only her photos.

I'm just wondering if any of you have ever done anything like this and if you were pleased with the book. I also wanted to let you guys know about it just in case you didn't know because if there's a photographer in your family this might be a good idea for you too!

I really enjoy your photos that you post on facebook. I get excited everytime you add new ones. I've had a love for ocean life every since I was a little girl.. I think it's fascinating.. and would love to go on a whale watch some day So cool!

Thanks! I've also loved the ocean for as long as I can remember. I went on my first whale watch in 2001 and immediately got hooked. It took me a long time to get my mother hooked, but now she's into it almost as much as me. We have so much fun together. It's a great way to spend time together.

I'm starting to go through her pics now to start planning it out. This is going to be one heck of a project, but I know it'll be worth it in the end.

If you ever come over to the NH/MA area and want to go on a whale watch definitely let me know! We can definitely meet up and I'll show you the "ropes".

I'm PSYCHED right now!!!

I've FINALLY finished the book that I was putting together for my mother. I ordered her copy and should have it by 12/11. It ended up being larger at over 300 pages and a little bit more expensive than I was planning, but it's so worth it. Now I just have to keep my mouth shut until I can give it to her. LOL

Forgot to add that I would love to go whale watching. I love the ocean. We lived on the east coast of VA for 10.5 yrs & I loved hanging out at the ocean.

Thanks, I'm beyond excited! I can't wait for this book to land so I can see it in person. Hopefully it's as nice as the computer makes it look. LOL

Where do you leave from in NH? Portsmouth? I never went whale watching when I grew up in Exeter but I did go deep sea fishing with my Father and left from Hampton Beach...umm needless to say I do not even remotely have sea legs! I cant even look at a boat without getting sea sick lol

I actually got my start whale watching out of Rye, NH with Granite State Whale Watch. They actually have some of my pics on their website. I started in 2001 and continued to go there through 2009/2010. At this point it was just me and occassionally my aunt. In 2008 my aunt and I brought my mom out of Gloucester, MA with Capt Bill and Sons and my mom got hooked! I rarely go out of NH anymore, we prefer MA. She likes the Gloucester boats better because they're bigger and more steady (100' boat vs 65' boat in NH). Now it's "our thing" to do.

Sure! Definitely! My mom and I go just about every weekend May through October. They're like our family at this point. LOL We don't see Orcas though. Mostly Humpbacks.
