Some days the hits just keep coming. I've been on the phone with Sue (GoudasMom) this morning about networking a dog she received a call about. I thought of a former TBR volunteer who left to work with an all-breed rescue in Oklahoma who might be able to help. I went to her FB page to send her a message and saw a post from her son.
Apparently Sandi was diagnosed with cancer in September and is now non-responsive in hospice care and in the last days of her life. Sandi and I struck up a friendship a few years ago after we adopted Tucker from TBR. She was a foster mom for TBR and took all of the very worst cases, the starved and neglected, the old and frail. She seemed to work miracles with most of the dogs she fostered. We talked A LOT during those times. We celebrated the victories together and we mourned the losses, especially a poor little emaciated boxer girl named Summer who ultimately wasn't strong enough to survive the horrible neglect she suffered. We sat up many nights together crying over that sweet little angel. Sandi has EVERYTHING to do with my choice to get involved in boxer rescue and even more to do with my choice to foster seniors and provide hospice care. She was such an inspiration and a great role model to me and many others in the rescue community. I'm truly heartbroken.

Such terrible news.... Sounds like she was a tremendous person with a heart of gold. Just makes me wonder why God has got to take the good ones... I feel so sorry for your loss, Cait. I will pray for strength for her family...

Cait - I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. My condolences - I hope she is able to pass on with the least amount of pain possible. She definitely sounds like she earned her angel wings already.

So sorry to hear about your friend Cait. That is so sad, but God must need her help now so he is bringing her home. She will now be able to be an angel to many many more.
