Thanks for trying for me.

That's the problem I'm having. All the searching I've done and nothing is adding up. They still haven't released the results through my online portal, but they should be since I requested it. It seems as though the most common conditions from having an elevated rheumatoid factor are RA, Sjorgen's syndrome, and lupus. Ugh... I'm not sure if I'm ready for a fight like this one. I guess I'm gonna have to be though right?!

Tomorrow's my appointment with the rheumatologist and it can not get here fast enough! I'm still having pain issues and have not slept through a night in months. At this point the only joints that aren't bothering me are my hips and maybe my toes! Everything else hurts. Both days this weekend when I got out of bed I felt like I was rolled over by a truck I was so sore. My life these days consists of getting up in the morning, going to work half dead, going home, feeding the dogs, playing with them as much as I can, then laying down to watch some tv, then tossing and turning for the night. I really want to be more active and I'm HOPING tomorrow the doctor can give me some medication to help ease the pains so I can be more active. It just sucks right now and I'm beyond frustrated with everything. I can't even get down on the floor to play with the dogs or train them. It's rediculous. Hopefully tomorrow will be the start of something good. Although part of me is very nervous at what they're going to diagnose me with.

You should look into Juicing! I bet you can get everything you need in concentrated form from juicing.

Let me suggest you watch Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead (on Netflix for free). I started juicing after that. I have no particular aliments but I feel like a new person. I do not do meal replacements but just supplement my diet. My mother on the other hand was very sluggish and stayed in bed most days. 4 days after she started adding juices to her diet she felt amazing and is more active then i have seen her in years. I'm not suggesting you replace your meds for juice or anything drastic. I'm only saying you should look into it.

Good luck Mandy. I hope you get some answers and that it is something manageable with meds and/or some other treatment.

My prayers are with you, my wife has RA and Fibro... Things get mighty rough for her, always in pain. I know it is easy to say but, STAY POSITIVE!

Thanks guys. More things to look into.

I had my appointment today. The rheumatologist is leaning towards my having Rheumatoid Arthritis even though I'm not showing the amount of swelling she usually sees. She felt my hands, knees, and left ankle were all swollen. She was also considering Hepatitis C, but I didn't meet a single risk factor on how it's transmitted so she's tentaviley ruling it out. By that I mean she's still testing me on it to be safe, she just doesn't want to dismiss anything. She's also retesting me for Lyme Disease, but again is leaning more towards it being RA.

They took X-rays of my hands while I was there and also took 8 tubes of blood for the testing they need to do!

For now she gave me a 10 day prescription for prednisone and then I go back for a recheck and to discuss further treatment. She gave me the name of a medication, but I can't remember what it is called. It starts with an M though. She said that the majority of people respond really well to prednisone and that it should help me with my sleeping problems too. I really hope she's right!

Just a quick update on my situation.

First I've been taking the prednisone since my initial appointment and I've been feeling great! The aches and pains have pretty much disappeared and I've been able to do the things I like! I've even had a few good wrestling matches with Logan which I've been missing as much as he has been! I'm almost scared to come of this medication, but the rheumatologist says it's more or less a bandaid until we can get the "real" drugs working.

My follow up appt last week had to be rescheduled because of our recent winter weather so I ended up going today. My rheumatologist is 99.9% sure I have RA based on all the tests she ran. I had a high rheumatoid factor, sedimentation rate, and c reactive protein. All other tests (lyme, hepatitis b & c, etc) came back negative although I tested positive for an antibody for sjorgens - another thing to research yippee!! She is starting me on methotrexate tonight and since I've been doing very well on prednisone she wants me to stay on it at 10mg daily until the metho starts working, or at least a few more weeks. She said that based on how high my numbers were (paperwork is out in the truck, can give details later) she feels that it's already aggressive and so she wants to treat it aggressively. If the methotrexate doesn't work we'll be looking into embrel, humira (sp?), or another one that starts with a s. These are all self injectable she said. I'm very concerned and nervous about the fact that she said it's already aggressive, but at the same time I'm trying to take comfort in knowing she wants to treat it aggressively. I guess all I can do now is keep taking my meds and take things one day at a time right?

Glad you are feeling better

Just a question - if the prednisone has made you feel better, why can't you just stay on that? It has a lot less possible serious side effects than those other meds.

If I remember correctly, the prednisone will only mask what's happening. It won't treat or help slow down the destruction to my joints. There are also some bad side effects when you're on this long term. I'm just glad I'm not dealing with hunger! A lot of people eat and eat when on prednisone and they end up gaining a lot of weight. Knock on wood, this hasn't been a problem for me yet!
