Just curious....

Where do you live? Do you have gun control laws there?

If you live in the US - are you for or against gun control?

I'm having a discussion with an American friend on this subject and was just curious about the views of the members on this forum?

I live in Canada - we have gun control laws and I'm all for it!

NY and everyone is really bugging out about it, I think we should have gun laws but to be honest there are so many bad people out there that you could just buy on the street not in a gun controlled store. We had a lockdown scare 2 weeks ago at my sons highschool because some kids were shooting a BB gun on school property... That was to close to home, would really like to homeschool my kids, I have 2 graduated and 1 graduating this June but my baby will be a freshman in Sept..shouldn't have to tell your kids to jump out a window or play dead if someone is in school doing harm.

I agree with this. Gun control does nothing except allow good people to be unable to defend themselves. I've never heard of a criminal that takes laws seriously. We won't even touch on the issue of how other objects are used to kill more people each year than gun(s. I.e. hammers).

I don't think the gun problem is as simple and one dimensional as tightening up current gun laws. The drug cartels bring in a lot of guns from Mexico and etc. I live in Los Angeles I think if I wanted a hand gun it would take me less then a day to get one. It's literally that easy. I think a lot more though has to be put into investigating what the actual problem is.

We could start by enforcing what is in Place. Criminals will always get guns were just making crime victims bigger targets.

More gun control laws or a ban. Makes about as much sense and as effective as banning criminals. Enforce the laws we have and commit the mentally ill in mental facilities like used to be done before the liberals got them closed.

I completely agree. These laws are only aimed at the law abiding citizens.

..... this is sort of like - putting tighter restrictions on who can buy cars (or taking everyones right to buy any car) because a few idiots are using cars to run over people at bus stops.

The proposed law will only apply to banning semi-automatic weapons, not handguns or hunting rifles. This was a law put into place under the Clinton administration, which was allowed to lapse under the 2nd Bush administration. Bush's own father resigned his NRA membership when this happened, in protest! Why do ordinary citizens need to have semi-automatic weapons; they only hunt humans. I understand the need for law enforcement to have them, to keep pace with the criminals.

Most of the horrific killings in recent years, using semi-automatic weapons have been by extremely unbalanced, ordinary citizens, not hardened criminals. Would they have happened if these unbalanced individuals had not had access to these weapons? We'll never know for sure, but I tend to believe not. Even if they had gotten a hold of other weapons, the damage these people inflicted wouldn't have been as severe as it was, given the type of weapon they used.

Just my two cents...

When you make a statement like above you show your lack of knowledge of semi auto guns. All a semi auto does is fire when you pull the trigger a revolver does the same thing. The 2nd has nothing to do with hunting or target shooting.It is to be able to defend ourselves against a tyranical govt. That is exactly why we should be able to possess any hand fired weapon. Many folks use semi's to hunt with, not to kill humans. Lets lock up the nuts and outlaw gun free zones and things will improve. An armed society is a polite society.
