So usually I take Wyatt over to my neighbors house, who owns a grooming business. Well I didn't want to impose on a Sunday, but really wanted his nails done, so I packed him up in the car and headed to Petco. Once we got to Petco (parking lot), the anxiety (or what i think is anxiety) started. He started shaking, shoved himself to the other side of the car and wouldn't budge. I talked to him in my calm voice telling him "its ok", " mommy's here"," i'll buy you a toy if you come in bubbas" (yes, i was bribing the DOG!!!!) I know he's been struggling lately with something, but i'm not sure what. So, After about 5-10 minutes, I finally got him in the building with some coaxing and bear hugging him. So I walk up to the grooming area, tell them its his first time there, and hand her my petpals card. She asked for his rabies certificate, I was like oh he has his tag on his collar....NOPE not good enough! Man was I mad that I couldn't get his nails done, after the almost 30 minute drive there and 10 minutes to get him in the dang store....I thought I'm not leaving here without something! Plus its his 6 month birthday...couldn't go to the "toy" store and not get him anything!!!!
So I figured I'd get him a new dog tag, his still had the ex's number on the old one, and I let him pick out a new toy...got a cute blue squeaky ball with little nubbies on it and its velvety soft! Well, I just happened to walk by an endcap of Thundershirts and thought i'd ask a worker about them. She talked about them a bit, helped me put one on him and let me walk around the store with him wearing it. Let me tell you, I noticed a huge difference in his behavior. So I talked to the lady some more, turns out, she's going to be his trainer there whenever he starts classes in a few weeks...so we discussed a few things about classes and i'm even more excited to take him.... Well, sorry this is so long winded, but finally here is our breakthrough!!!!!!! When we got home I decided to take him for a walk since it was so nice out, we made it about halfway down the street with the thundershirt on. Usually we don't make it off the porch if there's just one person (he insists on walking with 2 or more people only). So, a few hours passed and I kept the thundershirt on him and he just acts so well behaved! After dinner my dad and I took him on our usual mile or so walk...At a certain point, my dad stayed back a little and me and Wyatt kept walking like it was no ones business. before wyatt could "sense" that my dad wasn't there and would stop until he caught up. Tonight, he just kept on trotting! The only reason wyatt realized my dad wasn't with us was bc he stopped to sniff a leaf...looked back and was like "oh pap, there you are, hurry up!" Wyatt sat down and waited for my dad to catch up. My dad was so impressed, he stopped a few more times on our walk and Wyatt did great! I'm so happy, b/c now when we wake up at 6:30 am, I can take him for a small walk before I need to get ready for work, and take him for the usual walk after work and not have to worry about someone having to come with me! Has anyone else had a success story with a thundershirt??? Again, Happy 6 month Birthday to my little man!!!! Momma's so proud of you today!!!! |

Way to go Wyatt!! That is a wonderful story there. I've never used the thundershirt or known anyone that has used it. I'm glad to hear that it's doing great with Wyatt. Happy 6 months Wyatt!!

Honestly not sure what a thundershirt even is. I'm about to go google it now but glad he's doing better.

I have a friend who uses the thunder shirt on her pit and it has stopped his issues while they are gone during the day. I just got one for Tucker to help him while I am not home during the day.

I just googled it and watched a video. Looks legit. Glad it's working for you. Anxiety is fortunately not something I have to deal with, with Emma and Liam. I know it's very common in boxers though so I'm glad we got lucky. I've heard of pressure relieving anxiety in humans, glad they finally figured it out for our human counterparts
