I've been noticing the last couple days our 10 1/2 week old puppy much prefers drinking the rain water off the back patio and doesn't drink from him bowl as much as he should be. I'm starting to think he is afraid of the reflection of "the other dog" as the bowls we have are stainless.
He eats fine, though sometimes he'll back off and step back up and eat again, but the water bowl he hardly wants to touch. I figured the stainless was the problem for sure when I put a ceramic bowl of water down next to it and he drank just fine. Anyone have a boxer afraid of the stainless? Any ideas to get him to use it? Or is this something that will pass after the puppy fear stage? |

Mine arent afraid of the stainless but my 7 month old Karma will not drink if there are little air bubbles on the surface of the dish. It's kinda weird.
A ceramic dish is fine to use. I wouldnt let him drink the rainwater if possible. Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |

Buddha was afraid of everything when he was younger.. only until he reached about 5-6 months did he become less of a whimp lol. Is your bowl heavy? I found that the noise of the bowl moving/scraping across the floor would scare him, so we got a really heavy bowl which he couldn't move and he was fine. It is just a stage though.. Buddha was even scared of his lead and REFUSED to walk on it for weeks. (big baby) hah. Good Luck!

Murphy at first wasn't fond of the clinking sound her tag made on the bowl. But she soon got used to the noises. Not only did her tag make noise but Pheona's tags also made that noise. And Pheona's was louder.

Honestly I don't think it is fear causing this. My 2 would rather drink out of puddles, the swimmning pool, the ouside water dish, then drink out of the one in the house. They do but only if I haven;t let them out recently.
By the way the one outside is the exact same as the one inside. |

My rottweiler was afraid of stainless steal dishes. She wouldn't go near them. We switched to plastic dishes and she didn't have a problem with those.
