Default I want a big boxer. What do i look for when buying puppy?

I am about to go on a search to find a boxer and would like to find a puppy that will grow up to be a large boxer 80+ lbs if possible. When i go looking at boxer puppies what do i look for that will maybe show me that it will grow up to be a large size dog? Large paws? do i look at the male father boxer to see his size? thanks for any help

Boxers are considered to be medium sized dogs...."Breeders" that will market boxers that are huge, are not being bred to standard, and most likely not reputable breeders.

Heres the boxer breed standard.... boxer-standard-akc-t11362.html

If you are looking for that big - may want to try a Mastiff If you are looking for a boxer over 80lbs like Jess said they are supposed to be med dogs. If you find one that large - you may be in for a lot of joint issues as well as increased vet bills.

Ditto to what everyone else said. Before we got our first boxer I also thought they were big dogs. My husband said boxer and I said no way! Then he told me more about them. Our female is only 45 and our male is 72 at the moment and that is larger than standard. Some boxers may get that size, but its not all the time.

I saw someone said mastiff... check this guy out. If we wanted a big dog I would have applied for him in a heartbeat! He is gorgeous!

Yes if you want to be guaranteed a large dog, I would look into other breeds.

I agree, if you are looking for a large dog look for a different breed. Kiah is large for a female boxer at 62 lbs which is about the same as Keegan, my male.

I have to agree with the rest of responses, boxers are not a large breed dog. If you find one it more than likely will not be to standard, good luck in your search.

i know they are not large breeds, i have had boxers my whole life but i have always had smaller sized boxers for some reason and then i will see someone that has a big muscular one and thats what i am looking for. but i guess it would just come down to how i raise it by what i feed it and by its genetics right?

I'm not an "expert", but some lines are more muscular than others....did I read somewhere that the European lines are more square & muscular than the American Boxers? I don't think what you feed it would have any bearing on whether it was muscular or not...I'm thinking genetics and lineage.....I feel sure someone can correct me......
