Answer is simple to say... Hard to do... Research, research, and more research. Good breeders do extensive health testing for starters. Theres an excellent "sticky" in the breeding section to help you determine if a breeder is reputable. Theres probably a lot of information on choosing a reputable breeder online as well. Google is great that way!

That's great glad you ended up here, rather than continuing with mistakes. It's hard to admit our mistakes bc we are worried about getting judged and "stoned", just like you did... but stay strong and don't leave the forum. There's lots of great information on here!

If you are talking about Continental, here is an article with a little general info and differences between AKC and ContKC: Difference Between CKC and AKC | Difference Between | CKC vs AKC

I've read quite a few negative things about the ContKC though, because they have less regulations so BYBs and puppy mills are able to continue using bad practices and still get registered. Also, I think the ContKC will register breeds like the American Bulldog that are not recognized by the AKC.
