Please help make things a bit clearer for me. Can a breeder "double register" her Boxers with both AKC & CKC? If so, why would one do so in the first place?
We have had Libby for a few weeks now. She is 12 weeks old and when we got her, the breeder told us that her papers were not in yet but she would mail them to us. Several weeks have already past..so, on Monday, I contacted my breeder and she told me she was just thinking about the papers and going to give CKC a call to see what the hold up was. I just received a message from her saying that she spoke to the "CKC lady" and she told her that CKC had not received her female's copy of her AKC papers yet. The breeder said she is not sure what happened, she sent them in, but the lady told her to fax in her copy of the female's AKC papers (which she said she will do this am) so CKC can get the litter's papers sent out to her. She said her male is already double registered. I guess I am just really intrigued why a breeder would choose to register the puppies CKC and not AKC if the parents were already registered AKC? |

By CKC do you mean Canadian Kennel Club or Continental Kennel Club?
If you are talking about Continental, here is an article with a little general info and differences between AKC and ContKC: Difference Between CKC and AKC | Difference Between | CKC vs AKC I've read quite a few negative things about the ContKC though, because they have less regulations so BYBs and puppy mills are able to continue using bad practices and still get registered. Also, I think the ContKC will register breeds like the American Bulldog that are not recognized by the AKC.

This makes me very suspicious. If both parents are AKC registered then the puppies should also be AKC registered UNLESS one or both of the parents were sold on a limited registration. Which means they were sold as pets not breeding animals. So your "breeder" has decided to go around this by registering them through the Continental Kennel Club instead, which btw is a bogus registry.
Pretty shady if you ask me.

I can’t really help your question as to why one would double register but can you clear up some confusion. Did you receive AKC paper’s but haven’t gotten the CKC or are you saying she “claimed” to have registered the parent’s through the AKC but is only able to provide you with CKC papers? When you ask about double registering are you saying you were told you were going to get both? To my knowledge CKC papers don’t mean anything.

Just for clarity, CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) papers mean the exact same thing as AKC papers. Continental Kennel Club means nothing.

Right you are 2manydogs! This situation is shady!
The "breeder" is claiming that both parents are registered AKC. BUT... she is in the process of registering the female with the CKC also. She said the male is "already" (in her words, double registered) AKC & CKC registered. & no, marki.s70, she never offered me AKC papers (only CKC) which is why I became confused when she told me that the parents were actually registered AKC but I was getting CKC papers?? I was under the impression that I was getting CKC papers bc the parents were also CKC? Last edited by MyLibertyBelle; 04-11-2012 at 07:24 PM. |

Nope, you are getting Continental Kennel Club Papers because she for some reason can not register them as AKC. I hope she didnt advertise the puppies are registered because anyone can register their dog through the Continental Kennel Club all you need are two witnesses that say the do is purebred and a couple of pictures.
If I were you I would tell the breeder that you arent interested in ConKC papers, you want AKC papers instead!
