Well, every dog is different and reacts differently to different foods. I know that doesn't help much. But it really is all trial and error trying to find a food that works.

My Henry has a sensitive tummy also. We've gone through a few different foods over the last year and a half trying to find one that works well for an extended period of time. We are currently on Blue Buffalo lamb and rice and doing better daily!

Our girls have pretty sensitive stomachs too, and loose stools were pretty much a daily thing until we started them on a prescription diet from the vet. Talk about expensive!!!! we stopped by Petco this past week and got a bag of Nutro Natural Choice. It is a chicken, rice and oatmeal formula and is made from sensitive stomachs, is about half the price of the prescription stuff and was approved by our vet. We are in the process of switching over and so far so good. The girls LOVE it too. A rep from the company was there and told us it is guarenteed no to cause diarrhea (don't know aobut that but at least we could get our money back if it does)

Obviously that rep never had a boxer with a sensitive stomach. We tried several different foods over the past year plus. We went to a grain free food to eliminate them from the possible reasons and also a fish based food for a totally different protein source. There really is no cure all. I bet 50% of the folks on this board have tried all different foods. Some folks swear by a raw diet too. You need to find what works best for your dog, your budget, and what you're comfortable with. Currently we are doing pretty well with TOTW Pacific Stream, as far as grain free foods it is one of the easier on the wallet foods. We also add in Eagle Pack's holistic solution, which has some enzymes to aid in digestion. We find it helps a lot.

You can check out this site http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/ to see how they stack your food up against others. But don't beat yourself up if the food that works best isn't a 6 star food, the food needs to work with your dogs stomach regardless of how many stars it gets.

Just tried a quick or fast reply and it did not work so lets try this.

My buddy who is named Marvin developed Colitis about a year or so ago. He was just turning 1 yeat old. We took him to the his vet. She put him on Science Diet with some meds and and a tablespoon full of Metamucil with every meal. This did bulk up his stool. But it made him go about seven times a day. He was not running to the door evey few minutes or anything like that. I was just everytime we took him out he did a poop. His poop bucket was full by the end of the week.

He was 86 pounds when he got sick went down to 73 pounds went up to around 76 pounds but it veried from week to week from 73 to 76. So we did some searching and came up with this.

We found California Naturals Lamb & Rice formula no fillers just natural stuff for dogs. We put him on this and he has done really well. He gets no meds at all. We do still put a teaspoonful of ( Walmart brand Metamucil ) in his food. He is now 96 pounds and growing if we let him.

As stated by other posters you need to try different foods and find the one that works for you. One other piece of advice. We have pet store here named Bensons. This is where we buy his food. They have a policy keep the reciept and if it does not work they will take it back and give you your money back. With the return of the unused portion of the food. Not to many places like that around.

Hope this helps you out.

I put a little show together on him here is the link if you would like to see it. http://ifile.it/esyrm12 let me know what you think.

Great point. Most higher end foods will have a "satisfaction guaranteed" statement on them and a lot of the smaller places will accept returns of these foods with receipt. I know the local places we go to will, not sure about the Petco's or PetSmart type places. Ask about it when you buy your food. Although remember a food change should be done gradually over 3-4 weeks or so and even then it can take 6 weeks to several months for the dogs stomach to fully adjust, especially if he has a sensitive stomach. Changing foods too frequently you can end up shooting yourself in the foot and never finding a food that works.

I feed my dogs Canidae and it works well however they do not have sensitive stomachs. As said, every dog is different so don't expect to see a sure-fire this will work for everyone food. It seems to me that if a dog has a sensitive stomach then you shouldn't just feed a dry kibble however I may be wrong...anyone else know? I hope you find something for your furbaby!!!

I have found that Kiah with her sensitive stomach does better on fish based foods. I have to agree, if you don't change over slowly and give the food a chance to work, you may not have very good luck trying to find the right food. It took me a little over 6 months to finally find a food for Kiah after I got her.
