Default Accompanyment to Puppy nuts?

Hi all,
We have an 11 week old boxer pup, called eveie(eve when she is bad)!. We are feeding her the puppy nuts 3 times a day. Is there anything that I could add it on her food for a bit of variety? I have heard sardines may be good as it helps oil their joints?

Regards and thanks,
Michael.

hi thanks for your replies,
I was thinking that was a little vague when I was writing it alright!!. They are a chicken and rice nuts for puppies. He is at 12 weeks old now, and it seems she is getting a little bored of the same thing that whole time

If you are talking about dry dog food what you need to be feeding is a dry puppy food designed for large breeds.

You really don't need a food designed for "large breed" dogs, as Boxers are considered a medium breed.

Sardines are fine (I wouldn't do it at every meal, or even every day because they are high in sodium).

Some other nice add-ins are : a spoonful of yogurt, shredded cheese, parmesan cheese, diced apples, boiled chicken, fish oil.

Keep in mind - when you start adding things in - your puppy starts expecting them.

Good luck!

Would like to hear more input on this if there are any breeders or techs here because both our breeder and our local vet specifically instructed us to feed dry puppy food for large breeds even though Boxers are medium sized dogs. In fact both sent us home with sample bags of puppy food for large dogs; one Eukanuba and the other Science Diet. Each talked about the unique need a Boxer pup has for a specific number of protein calories in their diet for proper bone and muscle growth.

I have not had a puppy in years and went with what I was told. In the 1950s my mother bought frozen raw horse meat for our Boxers and cooked it every night for them. Yuck! Then she switched to canned. I always bought Purina Puppy food until now.

Since we order 14 50# bags of Purina grain and feed every month for our pigeons, sheep and horse I had looked into Purina puppy food for Shiro, but Purina has one puppy choice for puppies so I am not getting it.

We go into the vet today at 11 for Shiro's last shots, so I will ask more questions then.

This morning at the vets he told me that any dog that is expected to be 30 pounds or more should be fed puppy food for large breeds to assure proper growth.

We talked a little about new schools of thought and fads, and he said everything is probably okay just as long as the bulk of the food fed a Boxer pup is dry puppy food for large breeds.

Boxers should definitely be on a food for large breed dogs if the line your feeding doesn't have a medium breed food. their muscle mass needs the joint and bone support that large breed dog food provides. Dogs are actually lactose intolerant so adding cheese to their food can give you a nasty gas attack.

Jax loves it when I throw a few veggies into his food, like carrots or apple pieces, and every once and a while I give him some wet food mixed in. Not a full can just one of those little cans of the same line of food he normally gets dry.
