Default l need some help!!!!!!!!

I have a boxer that is three years old. He has severe food allergies. I mean not only is he allergic to the grains, also to proteins. I have been feeding him natural balance potato and duck formula every since he was 1 year old. Now I think he might be allergic to that. I have been giving him some can carrotts, greenbeans and potatos as treats. I beginning to think he is allergic to some of them. I have tried other natural balance diet food formula and still have a problem. The next step is vet formula can not afford very expensive. I was wondering if any one else has same problem or have any answers. Any thing would help. Thanks lynn1967.

I've noticed in the store Natural Balance has a "Limited Ingredient" grain-free blend, for dogs with allergies and sensitivities to certain foods.. not too sure of the ingredients but it's worth checking out if you haven't already.

I would suggest trying Taste of the Wild (TOTW) It's grain free and they have multiple formulas. My boy is allergic to chicken and I am thinking he is allergic to wheat as well... We use TOTW Seirra Mountain.. Which is lamb. He is doing REALLY well on this. He had issues on NB, Canidae, Chicken Soup, etc... One problem with NB is that they use a LOT of potatoe and potatoe can actually flare the allergies up even more. When there are a large amout of potatoe in a food it is best to have sweet taters rather than white.

It is funny you should mention the reaction your boxer is having to the Nutro duck and potato limited ingredient formula because our boxer, with no known allergies, is having a reaction to that same food. We fed it to her two nights ago and later noticed her skin was red and inflamed. She was incredibly itchy. I gave her some Benedryl thinking there was something in the yard that made her react but after eating again today she had the same reaction. We initially bought the food looking for something that was grain free with less preservatives because we thought it would be healthier for her. Now it is clear we need to be looking into allergy free alternatives. We will be trying something else tomorrow but I am not sure what.

There are five types of allergies which can affect a boxer dog.The most common symptom of allergy is itching. The dog may also cough, sneeze and wheeze due to a respiratory allergy. If the digestive system is is affected, it will lead to vomiting and diarrhea. When ever you find these symptoms then be aware these are symptoms of this allergy called itching.
And it is the most dangerous form of allergy.in this case get a vet soon.

Natural Balance also makes a vegetarian diet:

Natural Balance Vegetarian Formula Ultra Premium Dog Food at PETCO

This could be very helpful to a dog with allergies to protein. I feed my dog the sweet potato and fish as he seems to be sensitive to muscle meats. He's doing well on this do it is something to consider.

Good luck with your dog - I know this can be very frustrating.

Just so you know... Natural Balance recently added pea protein to some of their formulas due to the cost of potatoes going up. This might be the issue.

A list of the protein sources you have tried would help. You should also know that some dogs are allergic to food in the cooked form but not the raw form.

Thanks for all the info. I've tried him on wellness core for a while till I found out that chicken and turkey he was allergic to. I have also tried natural balance fish and sweet potato he was allergic to that. I've also tried NB biscon and sweet potato still had issues. I recently tried wellness simple solutions rice and potato broke out with hives. I think I have tried everything out there but NB venison and sweet potatos. I'm afraid to try it. I'm just really lost. I am still feeding him the NB duck and potato formula. Maybe I'm not giving his system enough time to get the other food out. I'm still trying to look for food in case duck formula is not working. This is so frusting to me and I'm just lost.

My friend's rott-mix also had severe allergies. Ever since feeding him Addiction dog food, his allergic reactions are at a minimum and he loves the food.

Hope this helps.
