So I've been reading some negative things about BB and health concerns. I've read some good things around here about Earthborn and since it's about the same $$$ I'm thinking of switching Bruno to it when the 11lb bag of BB Freedom Puppy I just bought him is gone in a few weeks. (of course I'd have to start before then to mix it) What do you guys think?
I've debated Orijen but I'm not sure if he will do ok on the higher protein level and that's a lot of $$$ to find out. I was thinking of the Earthborn puppy vantage which does have grain but at least it's not the bad ones. Or I could do their grain free line which also has one flavor that is lower protein about the same as the BB Freedom and their grain free is an all life stages food so he should be fine on it.

Yes exactly what are the negative things uve heard/ read? And is it specifically about the grainfree line or just BB ingeneral? Before we got our puppy I did lots and lots of research on foods. I did read- that at one time- before it was recalled- a long time ago! - bb had too high of phosphorus levels. Dogs were drinking abnormally high amts and getting renal failure. And it was a specific line of the bb I think. I did my research and came to the conclusion that they fixed the problem. I also read that many dogs had loose stools on it. That makes sense because of the grains, and how rich it is. Switched to the freedom - and no problem at all. I'm just curious what you have found.

I'm curious as to what you've heard about BB also. Both of my girls are on BB (as was our boxer mix) and we've had no problems. Both girls are on (in the process of transitioning to freedom).

Oh, I had read reports of recalls and people concerned about quality because it was made in the same factory as a lot of the other big brands. It's really too early to tell how Bruno is for sure doing on it since he just went 100% on Monday and also started antibiotics that day for a "mild" case of kennel cough. I do know he's doing much much better on it than the puppy chow garbage he came to us on. I suppose I'm just being a paranoid new puppy parent.

Make sure you check the date and validity on the info you're reading. I'm not saying you're wrong by any means, it's just a lot of info gets thrown @. BB is not a diamond product, not processed at any diamond plants that I am aware of, and wasn't involved in any earlier recalls this year. The last recall - for the phosphorus prob was in either 2009 or 2010, I believe? Trying to think off hand. Yes, please let us know if you find out specifically where it's being processed w other foods involved in a recall. As far as I am concerned, bb freedom is the absolute best line of the blue buffalo that you could be feeding, and unless you want to try something a lot higher in protein, like the Orijen or acana- which are stellar top of the line foods, I believe, and it's my opinion only, that this is one of the best lines of food you can feed. A lot of people on here like taste of the wild - in their diff varieties, but I believe that is a diamond product- and some of their food lines have canola oil in them- which is a lesser quality oil and dogs can be allergic to that as well. Also, the only food that I've seen come close to having the high amt of omega fatty acids as the freedom puppy has, is the Merrick food- which is also made from diamond. If it was me, and he's doing well on bb, I'd keep him on it. But that is just me.

Ok, sounds good to me. We'll let him run with the BB for a bit and see how he does after his meds are over and he's had a real chance to settle on it. For now his poops are a bit variable, but again I'm thinking that's because he just finished the transition and then jumped onto a course of antibiotics which can upset the digestive system as well.

I personally don't feed BB because of the value that you get for your money. If they made the Wilderness line in 30lb bags (or close to it, instead of 24lb), I would consider it. To me it isn't worth $55-60 dollars for 24lbs when I can get Acana or Orijen delivered straight to my door for $60-70 dollars, in a 28.6lb bag, feed slightly less of it and it's a superior product over BB. <------Just my two cents

MIne eat Wilderness and do very well on it. Baylee does seem to chew her feet when I give her the chicken one but she doesnt if she eats chicken raw. But I like it and they like it and it works for us.
