I thought this was a great article. Hoss loves his coconut oil.

My 2 have been on coconut oil for a little while now. Still giving 1/4 tsp. Not sure when to increase it. I had a vet tech a while back tell me to pick either the fish oil or the coconut oil & she'd say go with fish oil. Well guess what....I still give both. They get the fish oil at breakfast & then coconut oil with supper. I don't know why I separate it but that is what I do. I have noticed that both have nice shiny coats. We haven't given baths in a little while either. I don't want to give baths right now with how cold it is outside.

What is the difference between pure and extra virgin coconut oil? I understand extra virgin is unrefined, but I can't really tell if pure is as good. It doesn't specify if its unrefined, cold-processed, etc.

I'm guessing it isn't as good since I paid $14.99 at GNC for 15 fl oz of organic extra virgin and about $5.30 at Walmart for 31.5 fl oz of all natural pure. May just use the one from Walmart in cooking...

I have never been able to find the good stuff at Walmart for cheap. I think our brand is Nutriva??? It's the virgin , not extra virgin, but is organic, cold pressed- and I get it for 15.00 at the health food store. Thankfully I can get buy one get one half off. I give both coconut and salmon oil together and a raw egg once a week. On the coconut oil- I have been giving for about 3 months now and he is getting 5-6 tsp every day and is 65 lbs at 9 mo

With a Boxer I would start out with no more then a tablespoon. You can slowly work up to 1 tablespoon per 10 pounds of dog. I personally have never gotten up that high, it seems like a lot to me but I did get Gouda up to 3 tablespoons. Kippah will take a bit longer because she gets stomach trouble with the slightest change in her diet
