Recipes for homemade treats?

Hi... I've been wanting to try to make my own treats for Georgie! Since she's still training a lot, I use treats often. I just switched her to BB wilderness and would like to eliminate as much grain as possible...

Please share any recipes (simple or more ingredients, anything)... I'd love to try recipes from tried and true boxer friends rather than random ones off the Internet...

Thanks!! :)

I bought my hubby a food dehydrator for Christmas (he loves to cook and such) and it came with a booklet. I haven't really looked at it, but there is a section to make treats for pets. We will be making some of those eventually because we'd like to get away from store bought treats with all the additives and preservatives in them.

I don't have it on me right now, but I have a few good recipes with few simple ingredients. One is a pumpkin treat which is soft and mighty tasty actually. You could make them and cut them up in smaller pieces for training purposes. The other is an unsweetened applesauce and oatmeal dry cut out treat... This one was more bland. Yes I tried both... Not like there were mil worms or cow hooves in them! You can also just do a general search for homemade dog treats and find a bunch of sites. Or if you're on Pinterest search there too. I also got a food dehydrator for Christmas and made some awesome chicken jerky for Wyatt!

Thanks for the grain free recipe! I keep meaning to look for one. Grain free doggy biscuits are ridiculously expensive.

I can't wait to make some. My friend bought me the cutest little doggy treat baker for Christmas that even has an "icing" pump for decorating with yogurt. :). I'm excited to open it up and use it. :)

Right now if I buy treats for the girls I have been getting the BB Wilderness ones. I got a dehydrator for Christmas & in with it was a booklet that also gave directions for dog/cat treats. They do contain regular flour & other things so I'm iffy on that one. Going to pick up some meats to dry some of them for them along with some fruits. I still want to order that flour though.

Salmon cakes.....I have made this one..

Blend 3 tins of salmon, 3.cloves of garlic, 2 eggs and 3 sardines(optional)

then mix this with 2 cups of flour (oat, rice, barley, rye I use anything thats not wheat)
mix well... pour onto a well greased cookie sheet, bake at 350 degrees for approx. 20 mins or until you can insert a toothpick and remove it cleanly. Cut into strips and store in the freezer. My guys love it.

I was unsure of the garlic but I was told if it was cooked it's ok. I have made it without the garlic. :) Not sure how it work out in your treat maker.. but I would think it would!

Does this need to be baked or just frozen?!

Yes, boxerlove84, i have the same one!! its so cute!!

I'm thinking of getting a food dehydrator!! I am going to make at least one type of treat this weekend, so I'll let you know how it goes. It's all based on what ingredients I can find at whole foods!!

There aren't many grain free recipes out there, but I'm more interested in making my own than it truly being grain free (she's not allergic or anything... That I know of... I'm just trying to give her healthier treats..).
