I just read the saddest thing on Facebook! A friend of my aunt lost both of her dogs within 24 hours because of Ol' Roy dog food. She was in a pinch and sadly ran to Walmart to grab some dog food since it was the only store open and her dogs both died within 24 hours of eating it. She has since found out that this company has had multiple recalls. I just can't believe that a company can still be in business after so many problems and further more that this lady did not RESEARCH the food she was feeding her babies. A quick google search brought up tons of negative information about the company. I believe if you can't afford to feed your dog a good quality diet DON'T HAVE A DOG! After hearing this sad story I really don't feel bad about the $70 bag of Blue Buffalo I just bought for my baby. That's the end of my rant. Sorry, I just feel horrible for those poor dogs who didn't know any better than to eat the food they were given. I can only hope they didn't suffer

This is so sad. Walmart has a variety of dogs foods and Ol'Roy is one of their cheapest. How did she not know she was running low on dog food? I dont buy the she was in a pinch story. She forgot, cheaped out and her dogs paid the price
Sadly this isnt just an Ol'roy issue (who is made and manufactured by Pedigree). Many dog food company's have had serious recalls and yet they are all still manufacturing dog food for your dogs. This was the main reason we went Raw. I am just not taking any chances and I know exactly what my dogs are getting without all the filler crap included.

this lady at the dog park had a boxer , 5 month old female weighing in at 26 lbs. tiny little baby, very skidish of other dogs and even people. I almost couldnt believe it. I asked her what are you feeding her? she said Kirkland...
... i dont know too much about kirkland.. but i go for quality not quantity... i am happy to pay 60 bucks for zeus's food... he deserves it. |

Kirland is a Costco brand and has a grain free food called Natures Domain. It is manufactured by Diamond Pets who also makes TOTW. It is an affordable grain free choice.
Diamond Pets has also had multiple food recalls and thousands of animals have died from eating their food.

I agree!! I don't mind spending extra money to make sure my baby is eating high quality food. I would NEVER buy her food at Walmart and I don't buy the "in a pinch" story either. I buy food before the bag gets too low. Poor babies!

I'm not trying to stick up for Old Roy but find this hard to believe. I would think Walmat would pull the stuff due to law suits, and as many people buy Old Roy there would be a lot more lost pets reported.

That's so sad.
I would rather feed my dog raw meat if I ran out of food than that crap. Raw is healthy and safe at least.I don't understand why people think dogs need dog food and opt to feed garbage like if they run out of food.

Yup! I do not feed my babies any food that can be bought at big retail store like Walmart, Target or Kmart....they know nothing about dog food, they fill their shelves with the big name brands but do nothing for the pet. I do not feed them any Diamond manufactured food product either. I feed my fur-babies Canine Caviar or Orijen....expensive, but well worth it for them and prevents any future issues later on down the line.

When we first got Maggie, she came to us eating Ol'Roy. She was on it till she started having the worst cases of gas. We then switched her to Iams. A few years after that (when she started having hip issues) the vet recommended Blue Buffalo. We have been big supporters of Blue ever since. Pheona came to us on Kibbles N Bits & we changed her right over. Murphy came to us on Puppy Chow & we did the transition over to Blue. Even our cat is eating Blue now. To me, it might be more expensive but I know I wouldn't skimp on food for my husband and boys so why would I skimp on my fur babies.
