Default Experience with Zylkene for anxiety ???

Has anyone had any experience with Zylkene or Iíve also heard its sometimes called Lactium??? Roxy has come a long way with her anxiety but Iím scared she is going to really hurt herself one these days. She has major anxiety with people coming and going into the house so much so she jumps from our 2nd floor to the 1st without touching a single stair. I have tried to baby-gate the stairs but that doesnít stop her and only made it more dangerous. Has anyone had any success with it? And if so how long did you use it for? We have tried rescue remedy, the thunder jacket, lavender oil pretty much anything that I could think of and nothing has really helped.

I have no input on the medication other than that in cognition with training my be the way to go.

So first this is not typical Boxer behavior, you have to accept that as a given and move on.

Were it a dog in my care these are things I would do:

First the place command:
Why the ďPlaceĒ Command is So Important and Your Dog Should Know It! : TheDogTrainingSecret.com
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIGq_5r0DeE

Then "Sit on Dog"
http://www.boxerforums.com/1391921-post1.html
Energy - it's all about confid-tude

And finally this:
Leerburg | Who Pets Your Puppy or Dog

You'll notice the above is very simiar to this:
https://fearfuldogs.wordpress.com/20...-nicole-wilde/

Absolutely "NO DOG PARKS" you absolutely cannot allow this dog to have a bad Dog Park encounter and avoid "I thought my dog was friendly people" like the plague!!
Three Dogs Who Shouldnít Be at the Dog Park or Daycare | Robin Bennett

The 'Who Pets..." thing is how you establish "leadership" with your dog and it is how you show your dog you have her back! You manage her space, you keep people out of her face, you show her...you have her back!

More on Dog Parks can be found here:
Training Management and Leadership!

Yeah I "harp" on it and that is because a "single bad encounter can be huge sit back!

Yes Roxy is NOT a normal Boxer. Porsha could be sleeping in her bed and have 20 people come in and out and wouldn't even notice. Roxy - as soon as she hears the floor creak she's flying around the house to see what or who it is. I have tried the "place" command and she does well in training but as soon as it's real life she goes nuts. It's a whole other level of CRAZY! I've never seen anything like it. I can't even begin to try and train her when she's like that. I tried tethering her and she's broken two leashes, broken the hand rail on our stairs and dragged a heavy coffee table across the room. I'm looking to her something to take the edge off so she can focus and calm enough to listen to me.

Real life is called "proofing" you test the dog and if she passes, that is how you know the command is solid! If she fails...that is "information" for you. Right now the dog is to close to her triggers. Add space, continue to work on the "Place Command." If she has to be at the far end of a hall way to hold "place" that's fine. She is a special needs dog so you have to be flexible.

No you can't, it's called over threshold! Once that happens a dog can't hear anything...they are no longer capable of "thinking." Your job is to recognize the signals and remove her from the situation before she goes "over threshold."

"Tethering" is not the same as "Sit on the Dog" read the links again, get the concept down. You can go to a Petco take treats and an umbrella and, find a distance where she feels comfortable and just sit and observe!

Don't allow anyone to approach her..."sorry no she is in training" is all you have to say for most people, if someone insist on approaching her...then you have to get in there face and just say, flat out "NO" you can't pet my dog!

And finally yet again I "harp" on the "Who Pets my Puppy or Dog" thing, that is how you show your dog leadership, that is how you show your dog mommy has her back!

Yes exercise, is important but your dog does not need "you" to rip around a field at high speed having a good time.

You need to keep people out of your dogs face, move on and ignore and just put in the "time" walking your dog. It may take weeks, months or years?? I don't know, I'm a pet person so I have no "clock" on how long it takes to turn a dog with issues??

But I do feel comfortable in saying that if you do put in the time and miles doing the "Who Pets..." thing you will see the difference in your dog.

A day will come when someone will ask to pet your dog, you will shield her like you've done numerous times in the past. Someone will ask, you will look at your dog and if she looks at you like this is "nothing new" at that point you can step aside and say, yes, you can pet my dog!

Now she might not care?? But that's not the point, she will trust you and that is all that matters!

Sorry didnt have a chance to read all the links you sent - thank you by the way. The "sit on your dog" looks quite interesting and I cant wait to try it. Roxy likes to test your limits so this should be fun. I will have to invest in some ear plugs for the first few sessions. I will keep you posted.

Please do!

I'm actually wondering about my advise for this:
http://www.boxerforums.com/1736170-post12.html

I know it works, "I can do it," and I have heard from a couple of folks who have done it this way that it works great.

But in the big picture, it seems to be me, that guy in the video does it, Cesar does it and me??? That can't be right???

Honestly you just need more training, IMHO medication in this case doesn't fix the problem.
Your going to have to use a correction.

I know training is #1 but it's hard to train when she's amped up x 10000. What kind of correction? We have tried a bark collar and it doesn't even touch her unless it's turned up almost all the way which I'm not willing to do. I was looking for a medication to take the edge off so she could try and listen to a command and try and train her to settle down.

Thanks Chip! Roxy is a special breed and is not a typical Boxer in a lot of ways. Its very hard when a dog is that excited and amped up to break her out of it. If someone knocks on the door she goes NUTS and even attacks Porsha if she tries to go near the door. She herds her away and Porsha ends up hiding under the table to keep away from Roxy. When Roxy is like that nothing she isnt even on this planet and nothing can break her out of it. Porsha is the complete opposite and wont even get up when someone comes to the door!
