Annoying - any advice?

Well, I trained Hank to scratch the patio door when he needs to go outside to go potty.

Works well.

Problem is, he does it now also when he wants to go outside and play, sniff the grass, chase a stick, etc.

It is getting annoying. I get up to take him out, and then he does not pee.

So back inside we go.

Seems he is always doing it as well - as soon as I start watching a movie, friends are over talking to me, I am on the phone, etc.

Usually when he does this, I scold him verbally and bring him back in. But of course the flip side is I do not want to refuse to take him out if he as to go.

Now, he is getting plenty of exercise and play - trust me. Two 30 minute walks a day, and easily 3 play sessions outside with the ball. And many time throughout the day, if I am outside, I let him outside to roam a bit free as well.

Aww yes! You've now joined the crowd that taught there Boxers to ring bells to go out! :)

No matter now it's time to train a behavior you do want!

That would be this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIGq_5r0DeE

And some of the Pros have every client do this with there dogs:
Wheres my sanity: Sit on the Dog, aka: The long down
Energy - it's all about confid-tude

Train a "new" behavior do want! And by nad large Boxers want/need to be with there people!

An observation I made with my GSD (Rocky) v Struudell (Boxer). If Struddell went outside to go potty it was "Boom" bark bark back at the door inside of 2 minuets if she was not with Gunther or Rocky! So back inside and with the pack!

If Rocky is inside he is "always" within 5 feet of me! But if I let him outside....no bark to come in just nothing! Not a single sound! He will stay outside for hours and will not bark to come back in?? Sometimes if I let him out late and fall asleep..he will stay by the back door for hours and not make a single sound???

Not a complaint just an observation...GSD is a very different dog from a Boxer. :)
