Hank is a weird dog. A squirrel can run by right in front of him and he could care less. If a rabbit is running, he may skip along in the general direction. Geese and ducks, he just looks at them for a second and then goes back to his business. A turtle did fascinate him once and he enjoyed going after a toad, until it peed on him.
But, he sees an ant, spider, beetle or house centipede in the house, he goes crazy - chases after it, paws at it, plays with it, eventually kills it and eats it. :crazy eye:
Compared to my brother's dog, a short haired pointer, that will rip off a house gutter to get a chipmunk or break thru a window to get a squirrel.
Wyatt chases rabbits and cats. At my dads we didn't have any squirrels around, now we kinda have woods in the backyard so I'm sure we will see the occasional squirrel. He will chase bees of all kinds which scares the crap out of me! Not sure if he's every really noticed ants and other creepy crawlers!
Duke will chase anything that moves: cats, squirrels, rabbits, small dogs, birds... his prey drive is insane. He will also chase bugs, bees or any other flying insect.
Amor sees birds and wants to "investigate". The cats that go through our yard she wants to chase (we've had cats do she wants to play). She notices a lizard out of the corner of her eye and wants to see what it is. If a fly labs on her out side, she freaks. We stay clear of bees and wasps, she is allergic to bees.
Roxy gets stung a few times a year...she does not learn I guess. She does not chase our cats inside the house...even if they run by her, but she will chase cats outside and squirrels, bunnies, bugs, raccoons. She lives for lizards and gophers. We have a park we walk at that has people riding horses...I will put her in a sit and allow them to pass. She does ok. I think she wanted to kill the raccoon but i am not sure what she would do with a lizard if she caught it.
My mom's chihuahua got a gopher last year and killed it. I didn't see it but I heard about it. We have been having a lot of baby birds fall out of nests and usually Amor is so watchful of them and doesn't want to hurt them. She went to pick one up the other day to possibly eat it and I yelled no and she left it. Freaked me out cause that's not usually how she acts.
