Curious to find out who has a boxer who can swim and who has a boxer that's a sinker.
Logan is a sinker. If I go for a swim in our pool he begs to come in, but I have to pick him up and carry him down the ladder AND hold him in the water. If I let him go he sinks.
Abby doesn't beg to come into the pool, but she is perfectly capable of swimming and will swim right to the ladder on her own.
Neither Riley or Mason were fond of water so we only hosed them down when it was really hot outside. Neither one ever got into the pool.
Mine won't go in any water - they will even walk around puddles before going through them. I'm betting Maggie could swim (if she had to) and Mongo would sink like a brick though - lol
Aspen likes going in the water and trying to catch leaves or sticks or something that are floating, but she never goes deeper than her stomach. She will stick her head completely under the water to try to grab at something, however, she couldn't swim if her life depended on it, she doesn't even move her legs when she is in the water. If she is wearing her lifejacket and I go in the water with her and move her legs for her, she will eventually get the hang of it and start slowly paddling around, but not strong enough to keep herself up if she weren't wearing the lifejacket. Even with the lifejacket on she still doesn't enjoy swimming and won't go in unless she falls in or I carry her in.
My girl loves going in the water. She seems to prefer running through it over swimming but she will try to swim if for some reason she decides to. She's not very good at it and it makes me nervous. Last year was her first summer so we'll see how it goes this year.
Sampson won't go near the water. We're just getting him used to the sprinkler and even that is rough for him! LOL Gypsiemouse, Sam walks around puddles too. I got him a kiddy pool to accustom to some water but he won't even go in that, even if I throw his ball or a toy in. He would def sink if I got him to go in any water though, he's so lanky and long I feel like he wouldn't know how to use his arms!
My boxer can't swim, she had dog swimming lessons and she still just sinks. We stopped it as they said that boxers were not the right shape for swimming.
Yes! That is the problem. Their long, narrow, tapered chests make it almost impossible to stay afloat without a lot of effort on their part. Most are not good swimmers unless you train them from puppyhood.
So far everyone's experience is sink. I however have a swimmer. My little Boxer cross wasn't too sure what to think of water at first, now I can't seem to keep her out of it. Frequent trips to the river, she's becoming quite the strong swimmer. I will see if I can upload a quick 10 sec. video to youtube of one of our recent encounters. It's quite amusing. Anything in the water, sticks preferred.
Okay here we go, it's not the best, cause she's mostly just walking in the bits I caught but irregardless I suppose you can see her love. Maybe one day I will take an actual swimming one. It's one heck of a workout for her.
Love the video! I can see her body is more uniformly shaped than the typical boxer's. Probably why she's such a good swimmer! Do you know what she's mixed with? Is it a water loving breed?
When I saw her mom it was essentially the best way I can describe it is a mutt, the heinz 57. However I am hearing lots of murmur of her looking like a rhodesian ridgeback which is apparently a hit and miss on swimmers or not, some love it some hate it, so I am not too sure. The dad was a purebred boxer.
Ah ok! Well, either way it's good that she enjoys the water! Looks like you guys have a lot of fun there.
