I was hoping to start a conversation about what is the best thing you have found for your boxer. It could be anything ranging from a great toy, great food or treat, best pet bed you have purchased, best website you have found that has the best pricing, what pet insurance you have found that has been great to work with, best leash/collar/harness, etc. Basically anything you have found either in stores, online, or through other boxer parents that you have found valuable and that other boxer parents could benefit from. So feel free to share info on anything that you have discovered that others may find awesome too!
Gecko toys with squeekers that don't puncture, we have a set that's almost 4 years old and just bought a couple of new ones. Donut beds - love them - kids crawl through tunnels - Zoe loves hers. And Wubba's and recycled fire hose frisbees and can't forget Jolly balls and soccer balls. My two have tons of toys.
Toys: We get 2 bark boxes each month and this have saved ton on buying toys and treats. We sometimes get extras if i see something in particular but not typically. Their favorite toy ever from bark box is Pet Projekt DogEgg. Another one is their red laser beam - this is only used at night in the dog park when they are alone.
Best Treats: They get fed raw, so nothing really tops their dinner. But they are obsessed with dried salmon skin AND canned sardines AND seaweed (you see the pattern). lol!
Best Bed: COSTCO! amazing, huge, washable, enough said.
Another few things we love are: Ruffwear brand (we have the coats and boots for winter) and the leads. Salmon & Coconut Oil and Dr B's Castille soap for baths.
Duke at the moment has this maze ball.. He seems to enjoy it, I'll put part of his dinner in the ball he rolls it around getting all the goodies out.
I know this about things we love but I'll chime in on ; One thing I bought and I regretted its called a " slo.bowl"- it's a food dish with a maze to slow down their eating, apparently it's suppose to be a new adventure at each meal... Not so much lol Duke ended up getting a terrible rash to the point he started to bleed, and he got frustrated every time he couldn't get a kibble,he would smash his dish around tipping it over... Previously I had a medium size rock in his dish to slow him down and it worked !... It was free... So back to the old faithful rock we went.
I did see those maze feeding bowls and although the concept is nice, I agree with you that it was probably incredibly frustrating when he was trying to get food out of it. I contemplated getting one due to Brubear being such a fast eater but since he now eats sitting in a Bailey Chair we don't do bowls at all- we hand feed him his food which allows us to control the speed at which he eats.
One amazing thing I found when I was looking for food for him at a reasonable price is Chewy.com
The have everything for dogs and cats - and I mean everything. Order over $49 have free shipping and their prices are better than anything I have found for food and toys both in stores and online. Plus - if you purchase a toy or food that your dog doesn't like or if a toy does not last long enough and they tear it apart, just contact customer service and they will refund you the price of what you bought. You don't have to return anything, they just look you up in the system and refund you the price you paid. Even if it is a toy your dog just didn't like and nothing is wrong with it, they will still give you a refund and ask that you donate it to a local shelter. If you have unopened cans of food that your boxer didn't like they will ask you to donate that to a shelter as well when they give you your money back. Everyone I have ever talked to at Chewy.com is awesome and they are there 24/7.
This is something that has to be supervised. Jax has a very high amount of energy and it has been way to hot here to play outside, so my grand babys was visiting the other day and they got my exercise ball out and starting rolling around on it , then Jax decided to join in, he rolled around and played with that thing forever when he would try to bite it his mouth would bounce off off it he would butt it with his head and bounce it against the wall and get on top of it and roll, he was exhausted and played out after about 30 mins of this, so when he really gets wound up I just get out the exercise ball, it's only 10 dollars at Walmart so it's cheap to replace if popped, I'm keeping one here for when we can't go out on cold hot or rainy days, good for tiring out the grandkids too, lol. Oh yeah it has a little white plug in the end so I put a couple of pieces of clear gorilla tape over it so he cannot get it, out never let him play alone with it, it's been a lifesaver lately.
I have come to the conclusion there are only two things you need for a boxer.
1. A Chuck it Large size kick it/fetch it Ball
2. A large jar of Peanut Butter
