Just went away this weekend to a car show, had a great time but my Mackie ate the couch again!
I just got new furniture last month to replace the furniture he ate,,,, I keep the living room blocked off when I am not home because of little chompers..
My dog sitter who is my neice and her boyfriend went to work yesterday (sat) and my son who is 23 left the gate open and forgot it and left for a half hour, he came back my couch is a goner! He tore a rip through 75% of the back of one side of couch and ripped all the lower staples out. the do sitters tried to fix it, but didn't pull tight enough, now tomorrow I am going to have to rip the sticthes out and resew and restaple. maybe some miracle couch fabric or a strip that glues on.. urggggggg..
I am actually more mad at my son, the boys all know that the boxers get a little funky when I go away. he shouldn't have been so careless... they blamed the dogs training. the dogs have never destroyed anything else in my house only the couch... I just want to cry,

Hmm welll...in essence both of you are correct!

There is a "flaw" in the training, well behaved dogs don't do this! And if a dog can't be trusted unsupervised then they should be crated. But...obstinately you had "dog sitters" but "apparently...they "suck" at there job!

You've actually been "lucky" thus far, if he had been eating any of that crap...you'd be looking at a $4000 dollar surgery!

If the "problem" is only related to the couch?? That's a relatively quick fix for a trainer that uses an E collar! Simple fast and effective but it won't be pretty to look at! It would be better than a $4000 surgery however!

I've never used one myself but I communicate with one of the Pro's that train other Pro's in there proper use.

Or a longer more involved process is what I usually outline. One takes more dollars the other takes more time, your call. :)

chip they don't actually eat the coach more like he pulls it like a chew toy...
they are great dogs and I don't crate, just not my thing I am usually home all day, I work 2 times a week for my hubby and only gone for 3 hours, I close off the bathrooms, bedrooms and living room and kitchen. I can also take them to work with me sometimes.. but they see suitcases and start to freak out,,,,,

Lynne
I have reclining couches and they are sectioned of in 3s in the back, plus my couch separate the living room and kitchen.. one piece of the 3rd section is ripped 75% in half

Oooh so sorry this happened. This is why I tell my daughter when you leave you still need to crate Kai as I am unsure what he will do. He is getting better at leaving things alone but who knows, boxers seem to chew a lot. Kai is 10 months now and I remember our trainer telling us they go through their 2nd teething as now the teeth are setting into the jaw. Seems true as he is chewing more, just bought a bunch of new toys. I like chips idea of a trainer coming in with a e collar, perhaps that will help deter this behavior, if not then your son definitely needs to remember to close that gate. I feel your frustration. I know with me I finally get something new and wham...my old couch, and I am embarrassed to say lasted me almost 30 years, did have to replace cushions along the way but they were removable and it was easy. Like getting a new couch, it was solid wood and everything could be replace, never should have gotten rid of it. I replaced it with an expensive bernheart leather sofa, which my cats have destoyed, not totally by clawing but jumping, losing balance and digging in. I'd like a new one but I'm holding off. oops sorry got carried away here..
