Raised feeders...

In my research on Gastropexy, I noticed that a lot of articles suggest raised feeders as a contributing factor in bloat. Our first boxer died of bloat and was not using raised bowls. Ever since then, all our dogs have ate and drank from raised bowls. That's 13 dogs over a 35 year span and we haven't lost one to bloat since. My 2 current adult boxers use raised bowls, the pup does not.

So, who uses raised feeders, who doesn't and why?

I don't use a raised feeder. I've read that they actually allow more air to be swallowed while eating because of the position of the head. The most important thing is that we don't allow Duke to run around too much for at least 2 hours after he eats so as to not put too much strain on a full stomach.

I'm pretty sure that "based" on the "available information" that is the best we can do!

Raised or on the floor, if the "genetic component" is there, then it makes no difference?? But food and water "after" eating, does seem to be a "consistent" correlating, factor." That does seem to be fairly clear and "that" is one factor, "we" can control! Water "before" a meal "seems" to be kinda unclear?? But ... I go with what makes sense so no water before "one hour" and "after" eating. Some of us just hang our hats on that and do the best we can! :)

Hmmm, I wonder what "Wolves" do "before" and "after" consuming prey...just a thought??
