Hello! I have only had American boxers. Can anyone tell me how a German one is different? In regards to health, temperament, personality, habits, excitability, endurance etc.

If you have owned both, which one do you prefer and why?

Thanks!

Well your a little tardy in posting that! I can only "speculate" as I have not owned a Euro myself but I have worked with a few Euro/American males and I have found them to be "a true combination" of the two lines "Goofy" on demand and "serious" as "required!"

Euro's would have the "drives" you would need but that does not much change the facts! The fact of the matter is, that while the Euro dogs are bigger, broader and heavier and a much more "serious" dog than there American counter parts. And they do have the "Drives" you would need... The fact of the matter is, the science does not change and in fact the Euros may do even "worse" in high heat than the American Boxers!

The Euros are relative easy to spot "because" there heads are "broader" and there "muzzles" are "shorter" than there American counterparts!

See where I'm going here?? :)

Seems to be a trend here as of late?? Folks seem to think "repackaging" a question and asking in a different fashion will "garner" a more favorable response??

I guess we'll see how it goes "this" time?? :)

Well...I'm making progress...so "here" it's the "quotation" marks on GSDForum it's the use of "!!!" exclamation marks! :chair:

If I have managed to get it down to that.. I think I'm doing pretty good??

Yeah I saw that thread but, if it's the one I was looking at it was regarding American vs German for hog hunting... I was more wondering on their personalities, temperaments, trainability, health etc. and stretch that to European not just German boxers. Ex. Once I heard that euros were typically healthier and not as comical as Americans but I haven't owned a euro so have no clue. I will search through other threads :) I am sure that this has been asked lots!

As I understand it in general "most" of the info only refers to the difference in size. Not really a lot of info on the different temperament.

I would even go so far as to say that in "general" most of the public is not even aware that there are Euro/German/British Boxers??

Boxer Dog Breed Information - American Kennel Club

Nothing about the different lines is found there?

In GSD world, people are well aware of the different lines! Roughly speaking the Showline dog are viewd as "stupid and can't work" and are destroying the "working" GSD. And the WL dogs are viewed as "ill-tempered,aggressive and homely!"

And don't even mention the oversized dogs! They tend to get lumped in with the Shilos and Kings (which are not GSD but are big, the Kings tend to be 125lbs plus, and are a mix of (Great Pyrenees and Husky and breed to be a family pet) ie a Dog that looks like a GSD but is not! Think Lab in a GSD skin. :) And there is nothing wrong with a Shilo or a King Shepard, not "everyone" wants or needs a "true" GSD!

I don't know why that is so hard for some to understand?? But mine at now 112 lbs is a GSD! So I tend to get kinda ticked off! Lot of closed threads in those discussions.

Still GSD's are always in the top 5 of the most popular dogs in America??? Don't get it myself, a lot of GSD's in rescue so yeah I spend a lot of time over there in the "aggression threads" lots of threads in that one!

But don't see a lot of that in Boxer land. I tend, to think it's mostly because in general the American public is not aware that there are different Boxers?

But all of that is immaterial for your pursuit, however. A Boxer is "not" the job for what you seem to want and if you find a quality Breeder and you actually tell them what you intend to do I can pretty much guarantee you they will not you sell you a dog!

But hey I'm not a Breeder...but some here are! Just saying. :)

I am not understanding you Chip18... My post was wondering the differences in American and European boxers. I haven't ever posted anything about this before. You seem to have me mixed up with somebody as I really don't understand what you're talking about… My pursuit? I don't understand. My "pursuit" in this thread was to simply know the differences and temperaments. And previously you imply that I rephrased something in hopes for an answer I prefer? As mentioned I actually haven't posted anything about this before??!? :)

You seem to have me mixed up with somebody else
