I am going crazy!!!
Last night I think I aw a flea on Mackie, might have been a nat bug,, but it kinda jumped,,, I pinched it and drowned it, then searched both dogs, I see nothing.. then in middle of night hubby claims he had a flea jump off him and land in toilet and my son got a bite this morning... but I don't see any fleas I have searced my dogs so many times today... I have been home with them. I washed my bedding, vacuumed all the rugs and tossed the bag, but still freaking out, everytime they itch I freak out... I keep checking them with a flashlight... I put advantix on both dogs today and advantage on both cats, I brought a flea trap that works at night... should I freak out or calm down,,,,, I am really freaking... I check my babies daily.....should I do more?

I called Advantix and also research a lot.. fleas need to be on host animal for 24 hrs to lay a egg so maybe caught in time. 24 hrs would be around 6pm tonight... I put meds on them at noon,,, and don't see any on them and haven't all day...
Please pray I don't have a problem... I have enough on my plate right now and was just diagnosed yesterday with fibromyalgia and my diabetes is messing up too and on top of all that I have tennis elbow and rotator cuff injury...... I really cant take much more

Well, if you move to NV ...that will solve your flea problems! Fleas don't seem to like "low Humidity! That was a big surprised when we moved here from San Jose Ca! :clap2:

But something more "practical" can be found here:
https://www.diatomaceousearth.com/natural-flea-control-for-dogs/

I would start with flea bombing the house if you are OK with chemicals and then start using the "FOOD GRADE DIATOMACEOUS EARTH" for continued control.

Well I think your on top of it. Thats about all we can do. But that has reminded me its probably time to do the yard again, just in case. What happens here is the dogs don't usually get the fleas but the cats do even though they never go outdoors. I think they jump on us or the dogs and then to the cats. So now every so often I put revolution on the cats except my one old 12 year old persian. Flea meds don't seem to agree with him, it seems anytime I put one on him the next day he is lethargic and then for the next week he throws up. Vet always says its not the flea meds and we have him on CD for unrinary health now . But thanks for the reminder. I hope everything will settle down and be good for you.

Hmmm that is "odd" we had a Female Himamaylan (Persian Siamese) cross and we put a topical on her once when she was very young.

She almost "immediately" started to drool??? I popped in the shower and washed her off and we only used all natural products for her from then on out.

As do many people! No problem. The DE thing is new to me. I never knew about it back in the day.

We do have Spiders here including the Brown Recluse and Black Widows!!! DE is, suppose to work on them also!

Once you have fleas, they are extremely extremely hard to get rid of. Just putting flea med on the dogs is not going to take care of it. They are going to be out in your yard, all over all bedding, deep down to pad in the carpeting, etc.. They fact that you saw them and saw them jump means that you have a big problem, not just one or two, and treating the dogs is probably not going to work. A. You are only going to kill the fleas that actually land on the dog, B. It takes time for them to die, C. Your hoping your flea med actually works and the fleas haven't become immune to it , and D. Your hoping the flea med kills all life cycles of the flea. Fleas have many life cycles so just by putting med on the pets does not insure them going away. You are going to have to put med on ALL pets- so if you have cats - they will need treated too. Wash ALL bedding in your house at LEAST 2x per week - in hot soapy water. Vacuum every day- at first 2x per day. And then either put the vacuum bag in the freezer or throw it away - way outside your house. Fleas can crawl out of the bag. Your will also want to treat your yard. I would DEF recc using diatomaceous earth (DE Earth) it works for bugs around our house - namely scorpions and for 2 yrs now I haven't had a problem. But getting rid of the fleas is the hardest. Most people need a professional exterminator when they have a flea prob- ESP in the fall because they are just impossible to get rid of otherwise. Also - have you been using flea med on all the pets earlier this year? If you have been using flea med & it's not working - meaning you still got fleas, I would talk to your Vet about getting something different. My mom quit dispensing frontline at her practice because it wasn't working even when pple used it faithfully. And over the counter flea med may not work because it may not be the actual full strength product.

Have not used flea meds, all summer and cant treat yard its 4 acres.. but my boys don't stay put very long... and I check the second we come back in..
I vaccumed and tossed the bag and washed all bedding. put flea control on all animals including the cats... so far haven't seen anymore fleas, I am checking a lot, but have been gone all day and just checked and still nothing. I am thinking and hoping it was 1 or 2 stray fleas, the dogs ran into the woods next to my house and saw the fleas a hour or two later... my older boy has hardly thin fur from allergies so easy to check him.. my younger one I run a comb or my nails through his coat and see nothing, the dogs even see me coming with a flash light theysit and let me look they must think I am crazy... only bad thing is the meds are making my big guy itchy which is why I don't usually use...they itch I come running with a flashlight... so far no bites on them or us... hoping this isn't going to be a problem...my house was treated a few years ago with a IGR suppose to last for a few yrs.. but replaced the living room rug but bedrooms are the same... plus have a flea trap and caught nothing.. wish me luck

We have a lot of fleas here outside. My dog is on Revolution for fleas and yesterday when she came in she had a flea on her. Last week I saw one too. I think with Revolution and advantix and frontline the fleas have to bite the dog in order to die. The dog ends up giving the fleas to the indoor only cats and one of my cats gets worms every time there are fleas.
Last year my vet told me the OTC flea drops like advantage and frontline were no longer effective because the fleas are immune.
When i had a problem 2 years ago i got Comfortis from my vet (it is a pill) and the fleas died fast! I only used it for 2 months because the cats seemed a little out of it after getting the medicine and i did not like that. This was before I got my boxer so i have never used it on her. I bought a spray from my vet too i think the company is vibrac and i used that when i vaccuumed and was able to solve the problem

I think when you are a vigilant as you seem to be you don't have any major flea problem. A flea can easily jump on yourself or dog and come in with you. I would treat everyone and maintain a good vacuuming regimen. And yes as someone else said get rid of the bags as if y ou do pick up fleas they can reproduce in the bag. I always know when one of our animals pick up a flea because I immediately get bite and unlike the mosquito bite it swells up a lot on me.

Nice size yard Kim :)

You can always use DE around your foundation, 10-20 feet out from it and its safe enough to put on the pets as well. You can even use it inside the house if you need to. I used it inside earlier this spring when I had an ant problem (little bastards). I also sprinkle it all the way around the outside foundation of the house. I do my yard with it but my yard is tiny compared to yours.

:)

I do not use any flea medications ever and this is going on for 30years or more. And I live in hot & humid Florida. I have seen too many adverse reactions from the poison that we put on our fur kids. I only use a heart worm medication, I have no choice.
I would use borax soap flakes in rug before a twice daily vacuuming.

I switched my dogs to the Sorresto flea/tick collars. So far, so good. They're cheaper than the NexGuard I was getting from the vet. Frontline Plus and Frontline Tritak do nothing to the fleas in my area (GA).
