Hello

I am new to the forum and a new boxer owner. I rescued a two year old boxer named Bella a week ago. She has been a treasure, could not ask for a better companion.

I work from 7 to 3. I know a routine is important and we have a good one. I get up at 5, take her for a brisk 45 minute walk then and for a quick walk right before I leave for work. She stays home while I am at work with no accidents, chewing etc. When I come home, another hour walk and then a quick one before bed. I leave her inside my house and she seems to camp out on the bed or couch while I am gone. Some days, she can come to work with me but not everyday.

On my two days off we will be inseparable in the boat, at the dog park and taking longer walks.

She is a very happy girl and seems to be adjusting very well. I could walk her more but she gets worn out fairly quickly and it is still pretty hot here. I just wish I could offer her more during the day while I am at work. I have several Kong toys coming soon that I learned about here and will put bananas or peanut butter in frozen to keep her busy for awhile. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Congratulations on Bella!
That's wonderful that you can leave her in the house while you are gone. I'm looking forward to the day we can do that with our 10 month old but I think it will be awhile.
Honestly, I think that no matter what toys you leave her, she will pretty much sit by a window waiting for you to come home. They miss their people. We leave Uhtred in the yard (it has a high privacy fence and is dog proofed) from 10am to 3pm because that's the part of the day when we are both at work and check in on him by security camera from time to time. He plays some, but he mostly just lays on the picnic table waiting and waits for us to come home. My in-laws boxer is the same way. He goes and lays where he can see the driveway and waits there until they come back.

Thank you, I am beyond lucky as she is so well adjusted so fast. Bella has an old soul for sure and I am lucky she is fine inside with me gone. I have a drop cam so I can check on her and she watches the door about five minutes after I leave, then sniffs around the house and other than an occasional romp through the house she sleeps most of the time. Once it cools she can spend more time outside but it's just too hot for her right now, she does love to chase lizards and we have a ton of iguanas and geckos down here!

Aww she is a very pretty girl and you are so lucky she is not destructive. I'm not big on dog parks because I don't like other dogs getting in my dogs face, but thats just me. LOL.
Sounds like she doesn't have a problem being left and she is getting a nice walk in before you leave. There are doggie daycares, if you feel its going to be an extra long day or weather is bad. But as long as she seems content it is sounding good to me. Our guy is 1 , we can't leave him free when not at home, yet. He is getting good but still like to investigate and pull things down or off the couch. Hasn't destroyed anything but thats because we don't give him a chance too. Good luck with Bella.

I don't know that day care is the best daytime solution for your girl in a hot climate - I know here the day care dogs are outside all day which mine certainly wouldn't survive. Can you find a dog walker to come in and take her out for a walk and some play in the middle of the day? She might enjoy the extra complany. My big guy Max can be left home all day and no problem. Little girl Zoe is totally different story, I can't leave her 5 minutes that she's not into something - we've still got plenty of growing up to do - she's 20 months old :( Hopefully by 3 or 3 1/2 :)

My gal has to stay home while we work too. A couple of things I've learned is that I have toys or certain treats that she only gets when she is alone. We have a dog puzzle that dispenses treats when you line up the holes just right. She really likes that. So far the allure hasn't worn off, but I only give it to her about once a week or so. I also give her buffalo ears to chew on while we are gone. Again, she doesn't get them often - so they are more appealing. We also use the kong stuffed with different frozen variations. I'm always on the look out for long lasting toys/treats that will keep her busy for extended periods of time as well.

I leave my boxer Ruby and her "big" sister ( an 8 lb rat terrier who is the boss and the older one) Emerald together in the kichen while I'm at work for 5 hours. I normally rotate which toy I leave for Ruby but they usually just lay down together and sleep. I leave my grumpy old man in the living room because he doesn't like the girls to play. LOL.
The frozen peanut butter in the Kong is a good idea just make sure to use a peanut butter that doesn't have xylitol which some are starting to do now instead of sugar.
