So you’ve chosen your breed. You’ve been charmed by the boxer’s cute squishy face and loving gentleness with children. Now, you have another decision to make, and it shouldn’t be made lightly. Choosing the right breeder ensures that you’re starting off with a puppy that has all of the potential for a healthy and happy life. There are certain things you should look out for.
Du Claws & Vaccinations
Boxers got their name from how they play. They literally stand up on their hind legs and box one another with their front paws. Boxers also have a tendency to paw at objects often where other breeds would use their mouths. For this reason it’s safe for your boxer puppy to have its du claws removed shortly after birth and be fully healed by the time they come home to you. You’ll also want your pup to have a couple of rounds of deworming medications and possibly a distemper vaccine. This all depends on how old the puppy is when it reaches you. At any rate, you’ll want to double check with your vet that the puppy is up to date on vaccines and have the du claws removed early.
