She is in surgery for her spay and gastropexy. Waiting on the doctor to call me with a update. I am a nervous wreck!
I wasn't sure the surgery would happen this morning. We got in late last night and Raven had shredded her crate pad. Stuffing everywhere! I was not sure if she ingested any, so I let the technician know what happened. Guess she gets no bedding in her crate from now on.
I feel your pain, I went through this 1 week ago. From the way it was explained to me the bedding in her tummy wont feature in the Gastropexy as they don't actually cut into the stomach, they sew one of the outside layers.
I was in pieces by 1pm as I rang the reception and they told me she had not come round yet (not the most sensitive thing to say) after that I was in tears and my sister decided to ring and quiz them on my behalf.
Best of luck with the surgery, hope she recovers quickly.
Look at the memory foam bathroom rugs, I had them in my bathroom and realized my boy shreds his crate pad but lays down on the pads in the bathroom, I gotta admit, they are pretty soft and steady, so i bought one for him in his crate. He has been pretty good with it.
I love this idea! Boh has torn up 3 beds...for the last few months he's had one that has sides but no bottom (apparently he didn't like the taste of the sides as much as the bottom cushion). I'll have to grab a bath mat and see how he does with that.
My pups had nice new Kong stuffed beds in their crates, there was a little accident in Zoe's crate so she currently has one of those white ones that look like sherpa, the sides are padded but not the bottom, and she has he bone shaped pillow. That kind of bed might work too. And it's machine washable and dryable.
Raven is home sleeping peacefully. She is having a hard time swallowing from the trach tube, but I guess that's normal. Vet said she recovered quickly from the anesthesia.
After the 50 min ride home from the vet, she couldn't wait too get outside to go potty. Poor thing pooped nothing but stuffing from her crate pad. I have an old comforter in her crate for now, but l will try the bath mat soon.
On a side note, she is 2 weeks shy of 6 months and weighed in today at 33 lbs. She's looking good!
Snuggling under her warm from the dryer blanket....yes she's spoiled.
Aww so glad she is recovery. We went thru the same thing with Kai, always shredded up the nice expensive beds. We just quite putting a bed in his crate for awhile then about 2 months ago (he is 1 now) we bought a Kong bed, it is the canvas type crate bed. We sprayed it with bitter apple, let is dry before he used it. He has never chewed on this bed. Hope I'm not jinxing it. We also bought a crib mattress for outside the crate for him but he doesn't like it at all and won't lie down on it. It really takes up to much space so I'm hoping to convince my daughter to donate it.
Glad Raven is recovering. With regard to the crate pad, this is the only thing that has worked for Zoe: Primo Pads. We spent a fortune on crate pads and Zoe could chew through them all. She wold shred blankets and eat the pieces. This pad is vinyl and can be tied down (so she can't roll it to chew it). It drove me bonkers that she didn't have a squishy cozy pad in her crate at first, but we had too many close calls with eating stuffing and shredding blankets. We got this when Zoe was almost a year old and she's now 2 1/2 and it still looks brand new.
How did you keep Raven calm after the gastroplexy and soay? It has been 3 days since Roxy had hers and she is wanting to run and play . I am afraid she has overdone it as she got through a gate and ran up and down a flight of stairs this morning..
She was calm the first day home, spent most of the time in her crate. She was back to her normal self the next day and keeping her calm was a challenge. I tried to leash walk her as much as I could to wear her out. After a few days she refused to potty on the leash so I returned her to her loose backyard routine. She did run occasionally and that stressed me out. I was afraid she would rupture something but she was fine. It's hard to keep them down. Good luck!
Boxercrazy when you went for the follow up in 2 wKS how were they able to tell of the pexy held? Especially if they were acting like puppies and did some of the things listed .
I was more concerned with her popping her incision staples then her pexy failing. Her follow up was 8 days after surgery. I did mention her activity to my vet. He didn't seem concerned. Her staples were removed and all was well...I guess.
Love the redistribution of padding...she got talent
Hope she do well
