...When you've had a Boxer you never go back. Can you tell me if this is true? And why you think they are the BEST breed!
Many thanks.

For me this one is easy! I don't need a lot of words! Boxers make you smile and giggle! There motto is:

I luv my GSD but he takes life as a "serious" business! Stuff like this ...is not his thing.

I do miss those days. :)

I don't know about that.

Had a good friends sister who a couple of months ago had their ten year old boxer drop dead from a heart attack. She is looking for a different breed this time. She says it has to do with getting another boxer would remind her too much of the first one and just be a substitute.

I think for me, even though I really like Hank, if I ever have to get another Dog, probably not go with a boxer again. Maybe a lab or another type of "gun dog". Or a Boston Terrier, to keep cost down a bit and save space. Of course that is hopefully not until at least another ten years.

Now, I have another friend, the one who inspired me to get a boxer. He is in his late 40s and his family has had boxers ever since he was a child. They go through new boxer every 5- 10 years. (they usually get rescue boxers already several years old). I have known his last 2 boxers, and really liked their demeanor, the way they interacted with old people and children - plus he was able to give me much advice. His 92 year old mother has a 5 year old boxer that keeps her company - and is a farm dog as well.

If I was to get another boxer, I would probably have to get one that looks a lot different than Hank. Maybe a white one or bridle one.

I understand that.My Irish setter-couldnt have another one, would never live up to my Beautiful Bails, and comparisons would be unfair. It's not as if I could get a different colourway since they are all red!. Bostons are cute-like mini-boxers. My friend has a retriever(golden) ,not my cup 0f tea and his fur gets EVERYWHERE!!! :dontgetit:

Remember that Bostons are considerably smaller than Boxers, but big on play and running, if you get one as a companion, wait until your boxer has calmed down to protect the Boston against accidental injuries. Like Boxers, Bostons have their own laundry list of health problems. And a male may end up more of a buddy. Good luck!!

I was telling my husband the other day... forget about whether we could ever own anything other than A boxer, I wonder if I could ever own anything other than THIS boxer.

It's easy to love something that loves you back, and I'm just not sure any other dog loves you back with the same enthusiasm and openness a boxer does. My friend has a lab. It's a nice dog. But even though it's the same age, it doesn't enjoy life the way Uhtred does. It isn't as affectionate as Uhtred is. It isn't as HAPPY. Is it more trainable? Better at serious work? A better guard dog? Sure. But if you have the luxury of choosing for pure companionship, I think you can't beat a boxer.

I had wanted a boxer for several years before getting Riley. I lost him to ARVC when he was just over 9.5 years old. His last year was very hard on him and me dealing with the ARVC. It was such a roller coaster ride and many, many tears were shed. He was a momma’s boy and was constantly by my side. We had a bond stronger than any other bond I’ve ever had with any other living being… including people. Needless to say losing him completely crushed me and I swore I would never get another dog. Fast forward 2 weeks and I was searching for my next puppy which ended up being Logan (who was born 3 days before Riley passed) and a year later Abby came home. My relationship with Logan is very similar to mine with Riley’s. He’s a momma’s boy too and is always by my side when I’m home.

For me, I hope to always have at least one boxer. They just have such great personalities, great expressions, are so much fun, provide so many laughs daily, are so compassionate, and are so sensitive and tuned into their people’s emotions. I’m sure other “breed” people make the same claims about their breed, but I just can’t imagine how any breed could top a boxer.
