Interesting behavior...

Many of you know K.O. and Kina. K.O will be 5 in March and Kina will be 2 in February. Kina has to be with K.O., in his presence, otherwise she becomes very anxious. K.O. is a bit more aloof about it but you can see when I return Kina to him after a walk, he checks her out and is happy and playful with her. I've noticed over the last several months, that if I take Kina out first for a "nature" break and then take K.O. out... he then sniffs out from a distance and tracks down where she went pee and poop (we have to pick it up in bags by village ordinance) which can be in a lot of different directions and then he covers it with his pee.

I've never heard of this before but K.O. is consistently and intentionally covering her urine and fecal scent, with his urine scent.

Is this a message to other male dogs, that Kina is "his"?

Along this same line of possession and dominance, I've also noticed that if I am having fun with Kina and get a bit aggressive with her in our play together, K.O. gets upset and comes to me and challenges me that I'm going a bit too far for his comfort and does not want me to get any more aggressive with her.

Interesting behavior and dynamics.

Any thoughts on all of this?
