We are getting an electric fence installed on Friday. Any advice good or bad on the training? These guys need it they love running around the yard.

I remember when my grandma had her electric fence for her dog, i think one issue was other dogs that were loose would come into the yard and cause issues with Molly. If you're not constantly keeping an eye on them that could be a problem, another thing if there is something on the other side that catches their attention such as a squirrel the underground fence doesn't stop them I kid you not... My grandmas border collie would just run as fast as she could regardless of the zap, just to get a cat or squirrel, multiple times they would find her on the other side. I personally wouldn't get one for those reasons alone..I'm sure there are people here with positive experience with them that can chime in.

Yes I'm not a fan of electric fences though it would really be convenient for me. I've thought about the wireless one. I never let my guys out unsupervised so I think for the boxer and the chihuahuas it would be good but I also have a cairn terrier and believe me if she spots a bird, squirrel or rabbit she will be gone, I'm sure .

I think I would continue training long after the installers have gone. My fear is that if he escapes before it is ground deep into his little brain he may remember that it can be done.

I usually walk the flags for 2-3 weeks and when I hear the warning beep I pull him back with a loud NO!

I then remove every other flag and continue occasionally walking outside the fence with treats or a favorite toy. Remove every other flag again and repeat.

Tucker will rip the grass up stopping on the heals of a deer, rabbit or squirrel so I think he is well aware of the fence.

Mine has contained 2 different dogs over 17 years and the only failure was because my last dog developed CCD and didn't really know where he was or where he was going.

Also, check the batteries in the collar. You would think they would just learn the boundaries but mine go until they hear the beep. No beep...No Tucker.

Good Luck
