Now Maci is sick...

Good lord when is this going to end!

Saturday morning Maci ate around 4:30 as they normally do. Everything was fine. Around 6 am she started pacing and panting around our room. She has done that from time to time when she has an upset tummy. Let her outside and she threw up her breakfast. After several hours of the panting and pacing we took her to the vet.

They did 3 x-rays and a EKG. X-rays were fine he said. EKG showed a heart rate of 170. With what Boomer is going through and Maci's elevated heart rate it was decided to start her on Sotalol as well. Well that totally knocked her out. She never got out of her bed all day Saturday and Sunday. Wouldn't go outside, eat or drink.

Back to the vet yesterday. He is running some labs. He is afraid she might have a kidney issue. We stopped the Sotalol for now and will await her lab results. She slept most of yesterday, did take water from me, but was not interested in food. I boiled her some chicken, she wouldn't even touch that. She did eat about a half cup of chicken, rice and pumpkin this morning so that was good. She will be 10 on December 5th. I'm so afraid this may be the end for her. I am so not ready for that.

This is emotionally and financially taxing on us. Especially with me not working. With Raven's spay/gastropexy, Boomer's cardio issue and now Maci, we have spent over $3000 in the last 4 weeks. Our savings account is shrinking but we'll do anything for our dogs.

Oh I am so sorry. I do hope Maci recovers without a lot of expense . I know the feeling we have had a lot of bills as of late too, everything is getting so expensive, just food shopping. Maybe you can start a gofundme page. I'm not so familiar with that but I recently saw someone start one for themselves, not sick or anything just someone that wants money to start a new career. Will keep you and Maci in our prayers also Boomer.

Sadly Maci has passed. She took a turn for the worse today with labored breathing. Another chest x-ray was taken and Maci's heart was full of fluid and enlarged. Diagnosis was probably cancer of the heart. We couldn't stand to watch her suffer so the decision was made to euthanize. Our hearts are broken.

Thank you everyone for the kind words. We are grateful for the time we had with Maci, just wish it could have been longer.

Our male Boomer is having a rough time with her loss. They were inseparable. He has been sleeping in her bed at the front window all day waiting for her to come home. Our pup Raven has been trying to distract him, but he wants nothing to do with her right now. She is being very gentle and patient with him. Boxers are the best.

Aww, I'm so sorry, our dogs grieve too. My friend had 2 siberian huskies, totally bonded when one passed the other just grieved and howled day and night. She still does bandits over 6 months, better but she isn't the same dog. She also ate all their woodwork, never destroyed anything before. They got a pup but although they are fine she could really care less. She is 14 years old. I'm sure though Raven will cheer Boomer up some. I hope he will feel better soon.
