K.O.'s continuing saga of bad luck. Last Thurs he was at the doggie day care he has been going to for over 3 years. Nice place. He is well known and loved there. Apparently on that day, with approximately 60 dogs, there was a Chihuahua that is one of the employee's dogs there and it has a bad leg. Normally, that dog is not allowed to be in the population but it was that day. Apparently the Chihuahua got stepped on or bumped and it yelped in pain and there was a pack reaction and some other dog, flash snapped at K.O. and bit him in the neck. The staff said K.O. was completely surprised by the attack and completely innocent. They pulled the other dog off of K.O. as fast as they could get to him, saw that K.O. was bleeding and washed the wounds with hydrogen peroxide.

Simultaneously, my wife and I came down with the crud that is going around and were so sick, we could hardly get out of bed. Friday evening through Saturday evening, we had 12" of snow and then my wife's car died. (Anything else you want to pile on?)

Saturday I saw that his neck was puffing out on the left side and the fur was getting matted and hard. We had washed it with soap and water and applied Neosporin but now I looked in my home pharmacy and had a good supply of Cephalexin. I started him on 1000mg every 12 hours. First thing Monday morning(yesterday), I got him an appointment with his Vet, at 5:40pm. The Vet looked at him last evening and shaved the spot, determined there was no abscess yet but it was very swollen and is a spreading skin infection. He bathed it and cleaned it and then switched him to Clavamox. This is the canine version, properly balanced between the amoxicillin and the clavulanic acid for dogs. (these are over $3.00/pill, so 10 days is over $100.00)

K.O. has not been eating well and he did not sleep well last night but we are hoping the Clavamox knocks this out. He's been getting a lot of extra loving!

Man! what a rough couple of days. Now, I'm going to go talk to the doggie day care about what happened and what it cost me and see what they say.

Poor guy! Sure hope he gets to feeling better soon. I would think the daycare or the dogs owner should at least throw in something on the vets bills. Maybe the daycare's insurance?? Good luck let us know how everyone is doing. I guess Kina is taking care of him for you with lots of kisses?

Wow - that's quite a domino effect of bad luck !

I'd recommend a bottle of colloidal silver or Manuka Honey (they both have wonderful healing properties)- clean the wound 3 times a day with it soaked on a cotton ball.

Hope K.O. heals ups quickly !

:)

Aww poor K.O. hope he recovers quickly and I do hope the daycare will pitch in, I think they would as he was there responsibility to keep safe. We've been thinking about doggie daycare for a change and to get ours a little more socialized with other dogs but this makes me re-think the idea.

I really should chi the auto correct or my spelling beforehand, LOL

haha...!! I love it, doggie derriere! great auto correct!

K.O. has been to this one about 150 - 200 times with no incident. He loves going there and playing with his peeps and pack. What happened was an accident and it shouldn't have happened except for the mistake they made with having the injured Chihuahua in the main population. If you local dog day care is well run with great supervision of the dogs, it should be fine.

Oh no!! Well they say these things happen in threes, so I hope that's the end of it for you.

Hoping the meds clear up the bite wound and that it doesn't get infected! Poor K.O.! And hoping you and your wife feel better soon too!
