Hi all,

I hope I am posting this in the right place. We have our first baby, bella, who just turned 1 in October and just fell in love w/ a puppy. He is 9 weeks old and we can't live without him. Has anyone brought another boxer in and have any recommendations on how to make it go smoothly? This is our first time doing this so we are a little nervous. I would love some suggestions on how to do this whole thing. Thank you!

When we brought our pup into our household, we went into the cup de sac in our neighborhood. I walked our terrier who is high strung and my daughter met us there carrying the pup. We let her sniff the pup up and down, butt to butt and when the terrier calmed a bit we put the pup down and repeated then we walked a little side by side and then came back into our home. I went rather smooth of course there were times but for the most part the pup was in his crate (potty training, napping) and the terrier just got use to him being part of the house. Now they can run around together. Terrier still high strung, that is just her, but no fights. I think with two boxer it will be smooth.

Maggie was 1 year 2 months old when we got Mongo. We brought Mongo straight into the house though because he was still sick and recovering from Parvo.
We just had to remind Maggie to be "easy" and keep her from interrupting the many naps he needed. She was very good about it, followed him everywhere, snuggled with him, let him climb all over her and chew on her.

Thanks everyone! We are going to do a meet and greet to see how she does but there's not way he's NOT coming home with us. He is so perfect. Our boxer is a little high strung (as usual) and loves to jump. I am a little worried she will be rough on the pup. He is only 9 weeks old. While everyone is reading this, any tips on how to get our boxer to stop jumping on counters and play biting us? She thinks we are playing but she is so rough! Happy Thanksgiving! :)

Oh geez ...here I go again!

The dog needs to have "consequences" for "bad behaviour" you can hire a trainer and they will most likely use n "E-Collar" for "behaviour modification"
done once and most likely ... problem solved! :)

Or ... you can use a "Bonker" to do the same thing! A small towel bound with rubber bands. You say "No" and throw the "Bonker" and hit the dog with it! Once or twice, done correctly and again problem solved.

I continued with this theme here:

And I continued with this theme here and added more details and specifics here:

Aggressive towards the cat (Possessive) - German Shepherd Dog Forums

And I am not a "Pro" but in that thread "Bailiff" is and he pretty much confirmed I'm on the right track here. :)

You'll also see the link back to here on "The Place Command" and "Sit on the Dog," is where that came from "Bailiff," he introduced the concept ... I just found the links to explain it. :)

Possibly territorial behavior or aggression - German Shepherd Dog Forums

And I would be remiss if I did not do my usual "Dog Park" warning!:

Yeah most likely more than you ever wanted to know! What can I say ... it's kinda my thing! Welcome aboard. :)

I would suggest getting them into the same room without necessarily getting them too close. Reward each and especially for good behaviour each at a turn perhaps giving them a treat as you verbalize the introduction. This will not happen in a day so do not be in such a hurry but eventually, i am sure they will get used to each other.

It depends on how she does with other pups. Our big guy has been great with 2 puppies being brought into the house. We kept him on the leash for a bit to see what his reaction was going to be. Just a few be easy reminders but he seemed to know that's what he needed to do. He was 3 before the the first puppy arrived and more settled that your puppy is. You should put some extra effort into taking care of any issues your older pup has now because the little one is going to learn from the older one. Good luck - pictures pictures!!
