Our 15 month old female is about 50 lgs and small. I read where some bredders are mixing Boston terrier with boxer to get a "toy boxer". Does anyone know attempts to breed pure breads that are just small.

The best boxer I ever had, Duke (RIP sweet boy!), was 47 pounds on a good day. He was just small - not a problem. In fact, we were pretty happy that he was not a big boy!

Boxer females are "astonishingly small!" Especially when you see them next to a male Boxer! My girl actually did top at 65 lbs! While that may sound big (it's in spec) and pretty sure next to a 50 lbs female they would look about the same??? Your dog sounds fine, however!

A while ago I stumbled on the Boston Terrier/Boxer thing. I think the goal was to make a "Miniature Boxer."

Ironically enough there are lots of people that do consider a "Boxer" a big dog???

So with these guys would have a dog that looks like a "Boxer" but a lot smaller ...kinda like a uh ...."Boston Terrier!" :)

But no one is going to stop the "Hybred Train!" Have a look at these guys!:

In general less "game bred" than an "APBT" so a much better choice for the "clueless"I became aware of then when this guy showed up at solidk9training:

And as to the why ... I think "because they can is the best answer??" :)

I think normal Show age Boxers' weights for male and female, are in the range of 75 lbs and 60 lbs, respectively.

My Kina is 21 months old and was just weighed at the Vets office last week... 73 lbs. She'll probably end up in the 80 lb area, once she fills out.

My adorable "little" girl....

Here she is with her big brother...

My female just turned 3 and she weighs 52 pounds. She weighed that much when I adopted her at 18 mos. Here is a picture from when she was 18 mos. She actually lost about 4 pounds after i brought her home and was 48 lbs until just a few mos. ago when i switched her food.

If you have followed any of my posts, my big boy Bronson,11 has Boxercardomyopathy. Our girl is 16 months and 53 LB's. She is wild. Friends suggest play dates once. Never bites or hurts just exhausts. she is dying to play with Bronson but that is a big no.

We both like the smaller do and just wondered if breeding for size is happening, not a hybrid.

I agree with you, my smaller girl Zoe is so much easier to manage, which is a very good thing because she is such a wild child!! Don't know that she was breed to be smaller, her parents were both larger than her, mom probably 65 pounds and dad maybe 70 but not tall and lean. Sounds like our little ones would have a good time together and maybe wear each other out!!

Breeders would be better able to address the smaller Boxer thing?? But in general,
if people want a smaller "true " Boxer??

You get an American line Boxer and you get a girl! On FB I'm on the White Boxer forum and one poster had a pic of a White Euro Girl and she was freaking huge!! :)

In general, I like large dogs my GSD pretty much met and exceeded that expectation big time OS WL GSD 116lbs!! :)

At 65 lbs??? My baby girl (Struddell) was my smallest dog but she set the standard for me for Boxer females ... so "tiny" it is. :)

I remember Kari posting that she has either seen or owned female Boxers that were up in the 80+ lb range. It happens.

The breed standard for females is I think 55-65 lbs. Responsible breeders don't breed for increased Boxer size but rather breed for quality physical characteristics and health, at the target breed standard weight and height ranges.

I know my boy is overweight by about 8 lbs or so. So, I'm restricting his diet a bit and increasing his activity, to try and get it back down to where it should be for him.

Anyone remember Scarlett from about 4 years ago??? She was a national champion... just have a look at this beauty!!

As Jesse stated Boxers are suppose to be a medium breed with females being 50-55lbs on average and males 70-75lbs. Now you are still going to see some dogs that are much bigger than this. I have a line of large boxers in my program, Mya is 80lbs and built like a boy, her two daughters that I kept back are 70/75lbs and their daughters are 65/75/80lbs. I try to breed them to standard size males so that we don't become one of those breeders who has 100lb boxers. Typically my girls are 55-60lbs and my boys 70-75lbs.

Yep as a general there are some breeders that tend to produce OS dogs.

And I certainly hope I'm not getting tagged as a "basher" of OS female Boxers?? My girl was 65 llbs and no one that knew Boxers would have said she was a big girl??

I was surprised she weighed as much as she did?? Slim and trim yo!
