Finally got the okay from the vet to take bane outside and start potty training. He's 13 weeks and I got it to after he eats or wakes up from a nap he goes straight outside. I know it will take longer to break but when I take him out he just sits there, more intrigued by what's going on around him and then goes inside and pees and poops. How did you guys potty train your little ones? ☺

I always used a cue word, ours was "go busy",I would constantly say it until he went, and I always carried a treat.. We used bells in the beginning as well, everytime he went outside id ring the bell and say go busy and than take him out... He soon started to nose the bells, that was our cue.. When removing him from the crate in the beginning I never even let his paws hit the carpet, I scooped him up first thing and took him outside.

Also, Never scold if you find a mess after the fact, but if you do find him in the act grab his attention with a no or something of the sorts, grab him and take him outside. Find a good cleaner specifically for pets, or he might continue to go in the same area..

Happy potty training :)

Take him outside *very* frequently -- every hour at least. If you think he should go and he doesn't then you need to keep taking him out every 15 minutes until he does. Inside, especially if he hasn't gone, watch him like a hawk. If he starts to circle, sniff, or squat, pick him up and dash for the door. When he goes, praise him. Use Nature's Miracle to clean any places where he goes in the house, and if there are places he goes regularly, block them off so he can't get to them.
Patience is very helpful here too... It can take a lot of frustrating waiting until he goes, but he won't go if he's stressed so you just have to leave him alone. Also instead of cleaning it up right away you can leave some of his droppings in the part of the yard you want him to go -- he'll be more likely to go there if you do.

We started training immediately when we brought him home at 7 weeks and he trained really quickly. First we went out every 15 min or so and said outside, and told him to potty, we actually say go pp or poopoo, when he pottied we praised him by petting and the good puppy talk. When we learned about how often he needed to go we extended the time. Basically we carried him out to his spot in the yard as soon as we took him out of his crate in the morning. After he potted we fed him and gave him play time, then out again. We always stayed out until he went. After each potty trip we always gave him playtime even if just a few minutes so that he wouldn't associated going out with getting back in his crate. The only time no playtime was during the night. But he learned to sleep thru the night probably by the time he was 10 weeks. So you may be there already. They always go 1st thing and then about 15 minutes after they eat. If he doesn't go when you have him out don't give him free time, you may hold him and pet on him whatever but then back outside until he potties. He will learn pretty quickly. Just remember to be consistent, same feeding schedule, same words. You will be surprised how fast he learns.
