I hope everyone had a great holiday!!! ☺☺ Well bane had a blast and got lots of gifts! He was one happy pup the past couple of days ☺ Now here lyes the problem; I'm noticing more and more lately that he will go play with his toys by himself, play fetch, even a boxer run here and there, just like any other dog. Though it seems like when he gets uninterested in the toys he starts biting me and my husband. Anywhere he can reach or get ahold of: toes, fingers, clothing, socks, even the face! We've done everything to stop him (from what I read to what the vet told me to do)! Just recently it seems like the only way to stop him is to basically lay on him (not putting all my weight) and tell him "no bite" and wait for him to calm down. All the other techniques he either thinks it's a game or gets even more mad and growls and Snarles. Yes I've done the going into another room, deterring his attention to a toy, a flick on the nose, try pinning him down on his back, holding the muzzle and grabbing the back of the neck, you name it I done it.
Am I missing something that I should try or is it time to call in a professional?
After the laying on him and he finally calms down he realizes what he did is wrong and licks my face and lays on me. So I know he understand that what he did was wrong. It just needs to not get to that point anymore, and if he starts up I can just say no bite and he stops!
Sounds like Bane still is a pup. We went thru biting too but not so bad, We started right away with a yelp and a loud No. Kai never puts his mouth on you. Sometimes we play and he will have his mouth open but it never goes on any part of us. I attribute that to the yelping, no, and crate time. I've said this in the past but I really think these boxers are so human like and as toddlers need naps so do our boxer pups. When Kai would get where he was over excited he would get nap time in his crate. You have to be firm but not forceful.
I always think it is good for someone to take there dog to obedience school. I prefer a non treat trainer . Basically they teach you how to teach your dog. And its on going, even though our boy is now over a year we still do "training time" and incorporate it in our walks too. He will get it, it will take time and patience.
Vet advise on dog training! Yeah ...Vet's are not dog trainers! You should understand that first! A member on the GSDForum followed his "Vet's" advice to Alfa roll roll his dog and got 33 stitches in the face!
"Vet's are not Dog Trainers" be clear on that! "Anyone" that tells you to "lay hands" on a dog to physically correct them is a "fool" and will get you hurt and do "nothing" for your dog!
I always recommend that if people need to "physically control" a dog they use a drag leash in the house. A short leash with no handle to get caught up on furniture and the dog "drags it around indoors."
Then ... you need "control" I would start with the "Down/Stay" when the dog acts a fool you can tell him "Down!"
Next is "The Place Command" and "Sit on the Dog" these will help to train calmness into the dog! The goal will be if the dog acts a fool "Down" play time is over and then "Place!"
"If" this dog is a "Dog Park Dog???" One of the things a dog can learn from such behavior is ..."that would you say doesn't matter, I'll do what I want!" I don't "know" if that is the case? But it sounds familiar??
First post here more "anti" Dog Park stuff ... if needed??
The fearful or flat crazy thing is "The Place Command and Sit on the Dog."
It's a Boxer so most likely it's safe to assume he has full free roaming privileges?? The furniture and most likely sleeps in your bed??
If you can start training him and get "control" then most likely none of that will matter, if not it's gonna have to be Crate Train city! And of the furniture, and bed you go!
All of ^^^ is stuff you can do and none of it creates conflict with your dog and will not get you bit in the freaking face!!!
As always ask questions and welcome aboard!
