Do you guys recommend pet insurance for your boxer? If so, who with? Thanks.

I highly recommend Trupanion. Unfortunately we just had to use it as our puppy was attacked and had a serious ear injury from it. She had emergency surgery on 1/2/16 and we already had the check last week. Their customer service was great and they sent emails pretty much daily to keep me updated on progress of the claim.

I've had Trupanion ever since Baron was a pup. Nearly 5 years but have never had to use it .No insurance on my Shih Tzu and she is going on 9. Has never had any vet bills either. Just annual checkups etc :clap

I chose Embrace for the alternative therapies they cover. Plus I like the idea the deductible isnt per illness which I personally prefer. Ive had it for Kippah now going on 4 years but havent had to use it yet thank goodness

I have PetPlan. The deductible is per illness, which is not ideal. I did not think it would be a problem when I signed up but I realize now that a set yearly deductible would probably be better. I pay 54 per month for a 3 yo female. They also cover alternative treatments. I have used them a bit and they are good at reimbursement

Insurance is worth it, at least for me. I had insurance on Gouda but ran into financial troubles so it was one of the cut backs. When Gouda got cancer the treatments were very expensive and it took every penny and then some to pay for everything. Took me a long time to get back on my feet. A lot of people choose to just put money away monthly. That might work for minor illnesses but for something major like cancer it wont even come close trust me on that. For example Kippahs insurance right now is $37 per month(which does go up some with age). If I put even $50 away per month that $600 per year times even 10 years thats only $6000. That was no where near what her treatments/bloodwork, specialists appts and reg vet appts cost. Some people have had in here have had injuries like ACL repaid etc and it might cover something like that I dont know the exact amount that costs these days but I would guess it could easily use up that 6k for just that. Maybe I wont ever use her insurance I dont know but I would rather have it just in case. I would hate to have to choose between treatment for her and euthanization because I didnt have the $$. With all the health problems Boxers can have such as cancer and heart trouble, Im glad I have it.

Agree %100 .Be next to impossible to save enough money for something major. I know I couldn't .

Highly recommend Trupanion - they are fair and they don't commit fraud against you like PetSecure does.

Trupanion costs us $79 a month with a $250 deductible and so far they have paid back $4000 - having a boxer is the best but they kinda get issues sometimes and it is SO worth it to not have to make a decision based on money.

Totally agree - If you can afford it insurance is an amazing thing to have! I also use Trupanion and they've been great. I originally signed up with a deductible, but quickly realized that it wasn't worth having and changed the plan around. Our vet's office also has an express service which is great. They submit the claim for me, I wait for 2-3 minutes and Trupanion pays right then and there so that I only need to put out for what they don't cover. :)
