How did it go? Any tips on a smooth transition ? Do you have any other pets in your home? This will be my first adoption and first time ever having two dogs..

I adopted Diezel when he was 1 1/2 yrs old. He was a piece of work. Had a very rough 1st year. The best way to get them used to each other is to introduce them someplace neutral. After that start taking them on long adventure walks together. Side by side on leashes. They'll get used to sharing the same space and start working as a team when you encounter interesting or unusual situations. Keep your distance from other dogs until you and they learn how to act around each other. Have fun. She'll learn to love U long time.

I had always had 2 dogs together ( springers) but have been dog free for 8 years since the last one passed away. Leo is my first boxer and he came from a shelter in Quebec. I fostered to adopt as they had nowhere for him to go and he just tugged at our heartstrings. Looking back he settled quite well, I didn't have any history on him and I never considered that he might only understand French! I started from scratch with him, kept everything to a routine, same time for feeds, walks, playtime etc. He was traumatized from being in the shelter for weeks and so he isn't crate trained not even the lure of food would do it. I didn't really leave the house for the first 3 weeks then started to leave him for short periods and gradually built on that. He has been great, never an accident and no destruction at all. Eight months later it's as if he has always been here. my husband says he's amazing!... we cannot imagine how he could have ever ended up in a shelter like he did. Good luck with Duke and Lily and hopefully they will be the best of friends like my two dogs always were!

And she is defiantly going to be a handful. A good challenge I think, she's smart and attentive but has a mind of her own.. she is humping duke, unsure if it's behaviour I should allow or stop ? Duke seems to think she's playing...she just got fixed two days ago.

She is underweight, apparently had allergies to chicken.. I have an appointment with my vet on Monday, plan on keeping her on the food she's on currently until she settles in, hopefully do the switch to raw in a month..

Anyways she's a real cuddle bum and loves steak lol not a fan of the treats I bought her. Duke and her are best buddies other than the humping, she likes the cats and she is super quiet in her crate... day 1 went well lol

Oh how exciting for you, pleased to hear that Duke and Lily are getting along fine, they will be best buddies in no time! Hope you are having a wonderful weekend with your doggies, there are bound to be a few trials and tribulations as Lily settles in but hopefully nothing too serious
