Default How much do I feed my Baby Girl Boxer 11 weeks old

Hello everyone, I'm a new Boxer mommy - Sunday is only 11 weeks old and my fiance and I are having a debate about how much to feed her, I am following the guidlines on the food I feed her, which is Royal Canin Puppy for Large Breeds, and am feeding her 2x a day 1 cup each time, she wolfs it down and leaves not a scrap to spare. *He thinks I am feeding her too much (his boss a boxer owner and gives him all sorts of advice on the dog - all good however my fiance thinks he is the boxer god) I have had many dogs, he has had only one, I'm definitely doing what's best for her.. to the best of my knowledge. *His boss feeds his dog Purina Beneful a good food for his dog it agrees with her stomach, I feed Sunday a very high quality food from a pet store -- I know how the quality of the food effects how much you feed them.. Additionally after much research (and past experience with my Italian Greyhound's sensitive stomach) I found that Royal Canin could possibly be the best option for our little puppy!

Help!

Teresa & Sunday

Sounds about right to me if she was over eating as small as she is I think she would be throwing up undigested food

Two cups a day at 11 weeks IMO is not enough and they should be fed three times until about 6 months old and then down to two. * *I when my kids were little they would be fed about 1.25 to a cup of food three times a day. *I also adjusted their food according to their growth. *Pups can go thru lanky stages when growing and when this happen I normally up the amount of food a bit.

Beneful is full of fillers, First ingredients in their kibble - *Ground yellow corn, chicken by-product meal, corn gluten meal, whole wheat flour, * - Holy yuck. *So you are doing great by feeding a dog food that is higher in wholesom ingredients. Also with a young one, I would add in a fish oil here and there to the kibble. *Fish oils are great source of Omega 3s. They are also a great immune system booster which is great for little pups who *tend to have a weaker immune system than adults.

Welcome to the forum, and post some pictures - we love pictures of puppies!!

I did exactly what Hanna posted with Allie when we got her. *I added the fish oil though because she allergies and the fish oil (omega 3) helps with that. *I started with Royal Canin also but switched to Solid Gold as she got older.

I always end up feeding more than the recommended amounts on the bag to my dogs. *Also feed three times a day, maybe even four with a young puppy.

Definitely up her food amounts...At that age, they are growing very fast and it's important that they are getting enuf nutrients to support that growth...I feed Flick about 3 1/2 cups a day, spread over 3 feedings...The fish oil is a great add in to boost the immune system and it also gives your dog a wondergul shiny coat as well..

As for the boss, well, it's not that we know everything cos we don't, that's why we are here, to learn..But if he "knows it all", why would he feed Beneful???? And welcome to the forum...We love puppies, would love to see pics of yours

agreed. *Dude will be 11 weeks on Friday and he gets 1 cup 3 times daily, sometimes and extra scoop if he is looking like he is interested in our food or our other dogs food. *

I would say feed her a little more!

Oh and WELCOME TO THE FORUM!

Maybe I was bad, but when Tango was that young I fed him whenever he wanted. *It probably ended up being a cup about 4 times a day. *He's so high energy though so I find even now, in the evenings he eats alot and he's so skinny! *He must burn it off fast...hmmm...which that would work on me! * *

Gosh, I thought I was the only one. *I have always free fed my dogs. *They have a large bowl and can eat as much as they want whenever they want. *I just make sure that I play with them and they get a ton of exercise so they don't get bored and want to eat just for something to do. *Tucker is 19 months old, free feeds, and is still as skinny as a rail because he plays so much.
