Default female boxer/fishy odour

Nikita is now 16 mths. old. A few mths back I arose in the morning to a horrible stench in my bed...it was a fishy (period like smell ). I had to air the room for hours, wash the sheets. I did notice that Nikita was feverishly licking her privates. Anyways it happened again the other day. Its only happened twice so I'm wondering is it a female thing? She is spayed.

I'm wondering if it is anal gland expression. That is really some stinky stuff. Occassionally that will release itself when they are sleeping. My guess is that is what you have smelled. You could take in a urine sample as that would show any vaginal infections, but if there is no discharge coming out I'm guessing it is the above.

I tend to agree with the others. Is she licking her female parts or anus area? If anus it may very well be anal glands, if female it could be a yeast or urinary tract infection,

OMG that is Sooooooo an anal gland smell. . .there is none other like it. . .its foul and smells like rotten horrible fish.
When Zu had it happen, its been a brownish colour liquid, and happened on my bed once, had to air the room and strip the sheets and took ages before i couldnt smell it anymore

Most groomers can express it or your vet, i saw something on youtube about how to do it. . .BUT. . .i would never attempt to do something i was unsure of caus i heard that you can rupture their anal gland if you do it wrong so i leave it to the pros

I always wash Zulus butt after it "leaks" caus it really upsets him.

Oh noooooo, I know the odor well! Fishy Funk! And I tend to agree its the anal glands ... this has happened twice now and come to find out she expressed them herself while in my bed. It usually happens when they poop but they can have a bad dream or something and that can scare them which will make them do this. Id go to the vet either way and get a physical and have them check both for UTI and Anal glands, its always good to know. Good luck!

Oh gross me out! I didn't know WTH you guys were talking about when you mentioned anal gland expression.....quickly did some research on it and watched the 'how to' video :-& :-& My hubby(the do-it-yourselfer) seems to think he can do it himself Thanks guys for shedding some light on this stinky situation and now I know why she occassionally scoots on the ground.

He (hubby) cant be too hard, I used to have to express them when I worked for a Dog groomer..... Its not an easy task.... and if you dont get anything out the first time, I suggest you leave it be unless the Vet literally shows him how! Not to mention you want to do this in a bath tub previous to bathing because it really does stink (as you know). Sometimes they can become clogged too and perhaps thats why the scooting on the ground, have hubby "Do-it-yaself" man go to the vet and learn the propper way....lol..... We dont want him squeezing it for too long or making matters any worse. I dont even do Newts because I dont want to be "the bad guy".... 9 times out of 10 they do it while pooping and on their own.... little bit each day... Good luck with this and tell hubby..... May the force be with him! [-O<

I know the exact smell you are talking about! It happened once with us in the car. Bear was licking his back end and there was a brownish stain on the sheet where he was sitting. SO GROSS!

I have smelt it before too with Binga. If someone wants to expel it themselves, I feel for them! [-O<

Yeah the major reason i wouldnt do it is because it is totally gross, My vets face was a sight when i took Zu there to be expressed, almost like "Oh great" hahahahaha

So when he did it there was loads, he said oh its only a little bit, but to me it was loads. . .YUCK and the entire room reaked soooo bad.

Id have to agree with Vedra, go to the vet and see how to do it first or you could make it worse or end up rupturing the glands
