Default Skateboard / Rollerblade Pulling Harness

My Lola is growing up and looking for new challenges. I couldn't be more happy with her level of respect, but it didn't come easy. We go for daily bike rides and recently she has been going to the dog park at least twice a week. She always seems like the most balanced dog it is amazing. She is 8 months now and around 55 pounds. I am interested to try some new activities other than biking.

Rollerblading to around town is what we want to try next. I talked to a local pet store about a good dog harness and they recommended that I check online because there are better harnesses that can be more specific to my Lola's size. When she is on a lead she always stays next to me but if she is given the opportunity she would love to pull.

Can anyone recommend a good pulling harness I can order for my Lola? Any other input for owners participating in similar activities?

THANK YOU BOXER FORUMS!

Honestly, I wouldn't try anything like that until after she is 18 mos..She needs time for her growth plates to close, otherwise you could cause damage that will seriously hurt her as she ages....Any strenous exercise for that matter should be limited..Long runs, agility, jumping, flyball, etc...Boxers already have enuf health issues, arthritis being one, I would let her finish growing first before tackeling any pulling or long runs...Flick is almost 10 mos, at his age, walks are all he gets, no more than 50 minutes..(5 mins for every month of age), oh sure he plays in the yard a lot with Angel, but no enforced runs or jumps

I agree with Willow 100%! I should of been here before I bought Newt, she broke her leg at the doggie park at a very younge age........ I had no clue about not letting her do too much A very sad lesson to learn the hard way!

Sounds like a fun sport and I am sure that there are some things that you can do to start training her until she gets to the right age. When we started taking agility the trainers checked the ages of the dogs to make sure they could handle the training. The ones who were too young yet did only the obstacles that were not to strenuous.

At this age they look and act like there ready for anything but I do agree with the others. You might want to wait until she's fully developed. Kona is a little over 8 months and almost 60 lbs. I also looked into agility training, which I think were starting next month. They are placing her in the beginning puppy class... no jumping or leaping. All I do now is long walks and playing.

I 100% agree with the others! 5 mins walking for every month of age is a great gage. When our doggies are playing it's stop and start at their leisure but with a long bike ride or rollerblade/walk we stop at OUR leisure and the doggies will continue because they don't know when to stop...or don't want to for that matter. I would stick to short walks and playing for the time being until the growth plates close after 18months old.

I can see how much fun that could be, and have been thinking of doing something similar with Samson since he has way more energy than Savannah. I agree though that you should wait. Samson just turned 2 and i am still a little iffy on it since i know boxers dont fully mature until around the age of3.

Rollerblading with a boxer is pretty intense I almost bailed into a parked car once when I tried it.

I agree with everyone else. Maybe you could start very slow on the blades...like a slow trot?
Since you are already on a Bike hopefully you are going pretty slow? My guy is 4 and we bike alot but I am not brave enough for the blades....you got kahunas lady!

Thanks for the feedback. I think how gentle you have to be with a young boxer is probably one of any boxer owners biggest challenges. If you don't exercise your boxer, she will have so much energy she'll bounce off the walls. If you excercise too much she'll have problems down the road. I guess I just need to work on finding that easy medium.

On bike rides we usually take it slow for 80% of the ride. There are a few straight-aways where I let her start moving and release some of that energy. She can really move, but I'll make sure to keep a close eye on how much of that activity she gets.
