Default Ear Crop????????

I have been wanting to get Spikes ear's cropped and have been calling aroung to see how much they go for. I found a vet that will do it for $335. I did some research on this vet and he is suppose to be the best in Utah, he was recomended to me by the local boxer club. What does everyone think is this too much to pay for a crop? Oh yea the price includes everything anestesia and weekly postings.

I have no experience with cropped ears. I like cropped and natural. But in my honnest oppinions, I think he looks great with natural ears.

But its your little one. Good luck, cant wait to see what happens....

How old is your pup? You need to have them done before 15 weeks, and that's pushing it. Vets that do a good job refuse to do it after a pup is a certain age because it can be hard to get them to stand. We had Buster's done at 12 weeks, and our vet wouldn't do it past 14 or 15 weeks (can't remember for sure now). I believe the price was in that range, but I can't remember (I'm getting old and my memory is going) . We left Olive natural, I love the floppy ears but my husband likes the cropped look. We compromised, males are cropped and females are natural.

I paid $300 and that didnt include the re-taping. That cost me $25 extra each time till I got it down packed myself. The retaping over and over is the most frustrating. Be prepared to do it for a couple months. Good Luck

The price does not sound to bad to bad I think I paid a little more to get my dog done. If your local boxer club goes to this guy that would mean he knows how to do a boxer cut, I would gladly over pay for a good cut than under pay for a bad one.

IMO I would not really be worrying about price but making sure that you are going to a Vet that comes highly recommended, you have seen and like his/her work and they have mucho experience in cropping is more what I would worry about than price. Also I would make an appointment for a consult to let the vet see if your dog is a good canidate for a crop. Good Luck!

i paid $375.00 each, but that was 6 years ago and from one of the best boxer ear croppers in the country so i guess $335.00 is a normal price for a vet to charge, ask the vet who's ears he has cropped and maybe you can see some pic's of his work, better yet see if he crops for people who show their dogs that way you can look at their dogs to see what his crop looks like, don't be afraid to ask questions, 2wildboxers is correct, i would be hesitant to do it past 15 weeks old although a friend of mine had it done at 16 weeks and they where fine but i guess it all depends on the dog and his bloodlines, also do not worry about the price as your dog will have this crop for the rest of his life, this is one area where you should not try to save money, pay the price for an experienced ear cropper, your boxer is worth it..

It depends on the cropping method used, traditional or laser. Traditional is usually cheaper, stitched edges, longer healing time, etc. Laser cauterizes the edges, less bleeding, less scar tissue, faster healing time. Laser is not offered in my area, so I had to do the traditional method and my cost was $125 for everything-the surgery, the head bandage (left on for a week) and the removal. Then ear cropping is 'an art form'. So I'd discuss in great detail the length and shape you'd like your dog to have. I'd pm Greg on this matter, he has 'the supermodels' on the forum and understands a great deal about cropping styles.

Thanks for all the info guys. Spike is 10 weeks old, the boxer club told me that he is one of the best and that he will fly out of country and out of state to do crops, so I guess that makes him pretty good. I really don's care about the price that much as long he does a good job , plus I would have to drive about 45 miles each way every week.
