Default Nails: Never short enough!

I've been using a dremmel on Willow's nails for the last couple of months. I usually get them right down to the quick, and take a little off the top, round them off nice, but they never LOOK short enough.

I've heard that the quick will receed with continuous use of the dremmel, but how long does it take?

I am not sure, but I also had a question
we got our Boxer about a year and a half ago, and I have never cut her nails, and they never grow
do you think her previous owners declawed them?

and your willow is sooooo cute!!

I've never had to cut my boxer's nails because we walk or run all the time so his nails grind down by themselves. The nails don't have to be extremely short, as long as they don't curl past their paw when their paw hits the ground. Also keep in mind the front paws grow faster than the back ones.

I'm not sure how long it will take for the quick to recede. I've heard that if you are trying to get the quick to recede you have to use a dremel on the nails every three days. So, that may explain the thought of the quick receding 3 days after each dremel.
I try to dremel Maddie's nails each week, but sometimes it goes as long as a month. Which reminds me, I need to do that again!

Terri, you really should get a dremmel! It's so easy to use (once they get used to it). If your dogs sit for you without any issues for cutting their nails, dremmelling should be a breeze. You just have to get them used to the sound and the vibration, which only took my older dog (2 years) a couple of days.

Willow SCREAMED when I used to try to cut her nails, so I started using the dremmel. She still puts up a bit of a fuss, but I think that's mostly to do with trying to get her to sit still long enough!

Thank you Tootsie, I'll have to start doing them every few days for a little while, see if that works!

A boxer owner I met at the vet told me that, if I cut his nails very short now, I'll never have to cut them again when he's older. Dunno, is it true?
