A friend of mine who know I am in the process f getting a boxer pup has recommended I get pet insurance. He owns a jack russell and has informed me of times when the insurance has saved them lots of money because of his dog's allergies. Oh wise boxerforums member please help me with the pros and cons of pet insurance, good plans, and stories of when it came in handy. Thanks

I think pet insurance is a great idea! The reason why I got pet insurance is because one of my really good friends dog got cancer and unfortunately he didnt make it
If you are looking for a specific pet insurance company take a look at Pet Insurance Review - comparison of VPI, ASPCA, etc. lots of good stories and review. |

Best thing I ever did was get the insurance. After losing my last boxer in a short month's time from when she first became sick and ending up with a bill for $5,000, I swore I'd never go without. Unfortunately the boxer breed is predisposed to lots, and mine always seem to have freakish things happen as well. I've had so many instances where I've used it that it pays for itself. You do have to cover the cost upfront, but it's sure nice to get that money back! I've had PetPartners insurance through AKC for 4 years. I've always had the wellness plan which covered everything, including shots, wellness panels, heartworm preventive, etc. It WAS $50 a month, but I just got the renewal for Duke and it went up to $83!!!! I called them and they are very upset with their underwriters right now and are fighting it. I've never had a problem getting paid on a claim or anything with them, but I've opted to go with the Essentials Plus plan right now. I believe it's $34 a month. It does not cover the wellness exams, but it does cover accident and emergencies. If anything, I HIGHLY recommend all boxer owners to have at least that or cancer coverage under certain companies. It is so worth it, especially if something happens. $125 deductible, they pay 80 %.

I know with Trupanion the pricing is based at enrollment and I believe that it is how old your boxer and where you live. You can do a free quote on their website. suuuper easy to use. Talk to your vet and see if they have any recommendations too. And go on other websites and compare!
