Does she usually wear a collar? It looks like something is irritating her and/or she's scratching there. There is a product they sell in the first aid aisle of Walgreens called Hibiclens. It has chlorhexidine in it. It is actually used as a surgical scrub. Vets prescribe a shampoo with this ingredient, so I know it's safe for dogs. I would wash the area with that, see if it clears. It's anti-bacterial, so it will prevent it from getting infected. You could also maybe protect the area with some Balmex diaper rash cream. Sounds weird, but it works

Well she has always wore a collar but I have it off she has been scratching like crazy and sometimes biting. A vet tech told me to give her benadryle to help with the itching and I just started using some diper rash stuff on her yesterday.

Is the collar buckle metal? Maybe she developed an allergy to a certain type of metal? Just thought I would bring it up because that is exactally what my skin looks like when it gets in contact with metals, red and itchy with bumps!

Its now spreading to her armpits and legs I think its a yeast infection or something. I put flea medication on her today. If it keeps getting worse and still itchy I bring her to the vet.

Is it scabby? Hudson has something similar to it.. he had it a month ago it was treated now it came back i found it under his arms too. the vet said it could be a bacteria infection or just allergies. i got this antibiotic/steroid type powder and an antihistamine.

He is still itching its been a few days. i hope he gets better! good luck keeps us posted!

You really have to make sure you clean the area. Just wondering if you found the hibiclens?? If you don't clean the area, it will probably just keep spreading, especially if it is bacterial

Update I took her to the vet and he said she had an allergic reaction to either the rabies shot or the medicated shampoo I was using for her ringworm and now it has become a staph infection. He said if it does come back that she is proubly a skin allergy dog. I got her on to medications that are pills. So I hope shes not a skin allergy dog bc that can be expensive. Any good pet insurance places?lol

I am in the same boat with you. That's what the vet told me that it was a bacteria/staph infection and that if it came back he may be an allergy dog or maybe i need to change his diet. I happen to have pet insurance called Pets Best. Its great. I only use it for emergencies.. i have $100 deductible and 80% back.

I haven't started doing anything with ring worm just yet but I will be in a few weeks.

Did you vet say anything about it being contagious? Mine said it shouldn't be but I wonder what yours said.

No the infection isnt contagious but ringworm is to people and other dogs for up tot 3 weeks it needs to be treated. If you or another dog has already had ringworm its not contagious.
