I will have to check out the pet store, Vet said they sell breed dog food. so Boxer dog food. I have not checked yet. but the one can of soft dog food had a pic. of boxer on it so I thought cool. till i read the ingredients.... crap all of it,, I have made dog food for my other two before because Crash had such severe food allergies but it is a lot of work and time is precious. today she just looked at the food so there I go.....she pretty good at trying to eat off of Teagans high chair tray,,, not that we don't try and stop her but she can be quick and Teagan laughs at her.. it is a losing battle...

It's strange reading about so many Boxers being picky about food. Mine will eat ANYTHING I put down and leans against my leg when I cook just waiting for anything to fall from the counter. I have to be careful, lol.

Usually it's the owners that create picky dogs. Not ALL just most lol I did it with Reeko. |

NOOOOOOO WAAAAAYYYY did I create a picky dog. I only carried her like my baby and feed her off of my fork (after I am done of course) and we only give her people food if she really wants it and the cats share their food by getting out of her way, so am not really sure how any one could think we could create a picky dog! Only kidding.. take total responsibility,, and i love it.

I totally agree that owners cause a picky eater. My first boxer, Duke (Rip!) totally had me trained until someone on this forum suggested the "tough love" approach. I would buy him a premium kibble, which he would eat with gusto - for about a week... Then he'd turn his nose up at it, looking at me like I was nuts. I went through the whole adding stuff to the food. Like I said, he had me trained well. Once I employed the tough love approach, he refused to eat for 3 days. After that, hunger won out, and he ate from then on, without fuss. Occasionally, he'd back slide and try his old ways, but quickly found out it didn't work.
I also agree that every dog is different regarding what food works and what doesn't. Dempsey can't eat high protein foods. If the protein is 30+ percent, he gets loose poo, even if not overfed. He's currently eating Acana Chicken and Burbank Potato, which has also steel cut oats in it, and he's doing great. It's the first grain inclusive kibble I've fed in years! |
