Since I give Maggie and Mongo fish oil, I found out you should give vitamin E as well (Thanks Kari) , so I bought some vitamin E in gelcaps today.
They are about half the size of the fish oil caps so I figured I would cut them open and squeeze out the vitamin E into their food like I do with the fish oil. But, The inside is more like a sticky gel than a liquid, so most of it ended up on my fingers and not on the food. ![]() How do you give the vitamin E ? Maggie and Mongo probably won't eat the gelcaps themselves, they wouldn't eat the fish oil gelcaps which is why I cut them open. |

My guys eat the gelcaps. I give the fish ones first and then the Vitamin E ones. You could try and hide them but I just taught mine to eat them. Easy Peasy

I heard that since dogs have shorter digestive tracks, the gelatin might not completely dissolve like it would in a human's stomach, making the oil or vitamin E not get absorbed as well by the dog. I use the liquid salmon oil on Bruce's food, then cut a little hole in the Vitamin E gelcap, squeeze out as much as I can, and throw the remaining squished gelcap in the bowl.
Bruce eats like starving garbage disposal, so I don't really have a problem with him refusing to eat it. When I did the fish oil gelcaps, he would roll them around in his mouth until he got them to POP really loudly, and then lick his fishy lips for about 5 minutes lol

I give them to Lexi in the PM. I just stick them both (the fish capsule and the vit E) in her yougurt and she's eaten them every time.

Riley was amazing with taking his pills. I realize now after reading so many posts (and comparing him to Mason) how lucky I was that he was such a good boy with taking pills. He had to take a lot of them too! Anyway, with his supplement pills I just tossed them in with his food and he'd eat them right up. With his really important heart medication I'd feed them to him by hand. He never fought me on it.
