Default Outdoor kennel vs electric fence/collar

Ok spring is here and our pup is 3 months old. he's inside our home (in his crate, still in housebreaking) and he does goes out a lot during the day with our supervision, however, we want to get an outdoor kennel or set him up with an electric fence/collar so he can run around. Our house front and backyard are not enclosed and so we can only be out there if we are there with him, so are looking for a bit more of room so he can spend some time outside while we do out chores inside the house. So we were wondering what would be the best option? I know a kennel could be of a decent size and he can play there, and with the fence we saw some wireless that all needed was the collar, the main control and stakes (and some have a wired perimeter), so what is your opinion? anyone with any experience on this?
Thanks.

Darko wll most likely not be happy outside unless you are outside with him, regardless of what type of fence / kennel you get. Boxers are too people oriented. Take turns doing your chores so someone can supervise the puppy.

I agree with Lynne. In my experience, both boxers in my life want to come right in if we aren't out there too.

I would go out with her as well and for sure not put up an electric fence/collar set up. IF you are going to do something a large kennel maybe but please not the collar/fence thing.

I live on a busy road. I just don't trust shock fences. I also hate the thought of my dogs being put in the kennel. I just went to the hardware store bought some wire fencing and some metal posts. Now my yard is temporarily fenced in until I can afford the materials to make a good permanent fence.

A kennel run with a top on a concrete pad is indeed the safest and I prefer 9 gauge as it's much stronger. You can even padlock the gate for more security.

Not gonna get into pros and cons of electric, at it's best a last resort only. If a kennel run is 100% safe the electric fence/collar thing I would say is only 20% on the safety list.

I don't care who has used them successfully there is no comparison to a dog in a kennel run. 50 years in the dog business and I have always enjoyed walking out to the kennels and finding all my dogs where I put them. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Electric fences don't protect the pup from other dogs and critters.

I agree that your puppy will not want to be outside by himself. I have 4 dogs, a fully fenced in back yard thats 100' x 200' and I still spend a lot of time outside with them. When I come in the house I can hear them whining at the door or sitting outside a window hoping I will walk past and see them.

Some ppl who dont have fenced in yards will choose a zipline to secure their dog to. It gives the dog plenty of freedom but keeps them safe on a leash. Its kinda looks like a laundry line.

I agree. I was going to suggest one of those stakes in the ground that you can attach a leash too as well.

Jasper doesn't like being outside without us, but Lexi couldn't care less....she'll putter around in the yard by herself without any worries.
