Default Dog in heat questions

Hey gang,
After a few fake outs Lula has finally gone into heat. I discovered it today so I ran to the petstore to get diapers for her. I ended up buying a pack of two washable cloth diapers from Petco. I bought the size according to her weight, came home and tried them on her...too big. Another trip to Petco to return the first set and get the next size down which is correct for her waist size...too small! Any ideas on what to do? I'm at a loss!

I use disposable diapers, but I went and checked and I don't have any right now to tell you the size.
I've also used child pull ups before.

Do they had adjustable velcro tabs on them? Get the larger pair and just do the waist up tighter. I use an Always pad to line them for quick and easy clean up

I've heard of people making belts for them. You just get a string and wrap around the diaper. I've heard a size six (I believe) pull up fits most Boxers.

you can always add extra attachments to them (ie more velcro), unless they're elastic. that's how i've heard of most people adjusting doggie clothes that don't seem to have the right fit.

Boys underwear size 5 work great, I hear anyways lol. Just put them on backwards so the tail goes through the pee hole and use a sanitary pad.

Thanks for the great tips! Lula's a big girl (68 pounds) with a small frame (hips are 22"). She's been wearing the smaller diaper this evening and for the most part it seems to be working. Her little nub keeps getting stuck inside but she doesn't seem to like having the diaper touching under her tail anyway so it's probably not a big deal. I'm just going to add some additional Velcro and hope that takes care of the fit. I've just walked up behind her all night and pulled her diaper up. I'm really proud of her for not ripping it off! She's been such a brat lately that it seems only fitting to have to chase her down and wrestle with her to put it back on!!! whew! Glad I don't have to deal with that!

We are creative with Lucy. I use old panties and cut a tail hole and use a hair tie and a pantie liner. Hey' it works and isn't expensive
She is so good about it. S he knows what her undies. are and will stand. and let you put them on. She is just about finished and I really plan on getting her spayed very soon. I would hate for her to develops health problems from not being spayed. I don't look forward for her to have surgery, I'm sure Ill be a nervous wreck, but I know it will be the best thing.

Glad you were still able to use the smaller ones. If she's anything like my dog, you might still want to grab and keep a pack of pull-ups around for the times like when they are in the wash etc. then again, I'm a germ-a-phobe so even though I use a pad, I only let her wear the diaper for one day then into the wash it goes. Also, don't do what I did once and turn her out to the yard without remembering to take off said diaper.... That is no fun I can promise you.

I also agree that chasing them around when their diapers begin to slip off is no fun. They need to make suspenders for those buggers.

Well, now I'm thinking that maybe the large size would have been the better size. I've spent more time pulling that diaper up on her because it's starting to sag! She refuses to have her tail stick out of the hole so the whole thing never stays in place for very long. Uggghhhh! It's gonna be a long two weeks!
